Publication number: 20040020168Abstract: A packaging and stabilizing system and method for creating a pallet of vertically aligned rolls of material. The packaging system includes a plurality of individual interlocking devices that each extend between the cores of a pair of rolls on the pallet. The interlocking devices are installed to create a lattice pattern between the rolls on the pallet such that the rolls are stabilized and prevented from tipping. Each individual roll of the pallet can be removed by first removing the interlocking devices connecting the roll to the remaining rolls in the pallet. Once the interlocking devices are removed, the roll can be removed without compromising the stability of the remaining rolls on the pallet.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2003Publication date: February 5, 2004Inventors: Steven H. Patent number: 5711609Abstract: A flexible reclosable package comprises first and second opposing films and first and second closure profiles attached to inner surfaces of the respective first and second films. The first closure profile includes a first closure element and a first lower lateral flange extending downward from the first closure element. The second closure profile includes a second closure element and a second lower lateral flange extending downward from the second closure element. The first and second closure elements are releasably engaged with each other. To render the package child resistant, the first and second closure profiles are free of respective graspable upper flanges extending upward from the respective first and second closure elements.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1997Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Product, Inc.Inventor: Steven H. Patent number: 5651462Abstract: A rigid reclosable package comprises a rigid tray and a flexible cover. The tray includes a bottom, side walls and a flange extending from upper portions of the sides walls and around the periphery of the tray. The flange has a tray opening edge on which a first closure profile is attached. A second closure profile is attached to the flexible cover opposite the first closure profile. The first and second opposing closure profiles are adapted to releasably engage each other. The cover is permanently attached to the flange except along the tray opening edge.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1996Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Products Inc.Inventors: Steven H. Simonsen, Richard G. Custer

Patent number: 5622431Abstract: A reclosable bag arrangement comprises a bag and an external zipper clip. The bag includes first and second opposing films. The external zipper clip includes first and second opposing closure profiles adapted to releasably engage each other. Each of the first and second closure profiles has opposing ends, and the opposing ends of the first closure profile are attached to the respective opposing ends of the second closure profile. The first and second opposing films extend through the zipper clip between the first and second closure profiles. The zipper clip closes the bag in response to interlocking the first and second closure profiles with the first and second films interposed therebetween. The zipper clip is not heat-sealed or adhered to the bag such that the zipper clip is separable from the bag in response to disengaging the first and second closure profiles.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1995Date of Patent: April 22, 1997Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Products Inc.Inventor: Steven H. Simonsen

Patent number: 5486255Abstract: A recloseable profile strip designed to eliminate the slipping of the top web with respect to the bottom web in the recloseable profile strip of a recloseable package and remove the need for a tack seal. The present invention utilizes a joining web to join the top web and bottom web of the recloseable profile strip of a recloseable package. The recloseable profile strip is extruded through a die from molten material in a flat, single strip. In the double recloseable profile strip of the present invention, the first and second top webs each having an interlocking member flank the bottom web having two interlocking members. A thin, first joining web joins the the margin of the first top web to a first margin of the bottom web, and a thin, second joining web joins the margin of the second top web to the second margin of the bottom web. The single strip is then cooled.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1994Date of Patent: January 23, 1996Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Products Inc.Inventor: Steven H. Simonsen

Patent number: 5238306Abstract: A closure system for a film wall package includes profile strips having a reclosable seal of the interlocking type, flange elements and, adjacent the reclosable seal, an adhered strip of peelable material. The peelable material and the profile strip may be co-extruded. With packaging film attached to the profile strips, typically to the flange elements, the resulting product may be used in a horizontal form, fill and seal operation, at which time the reclosable elements are mated and a peel seal is formed. The peel seal may be disposed on either side of the reclosable seal with respect to the interior of the package. The benefits of both peel seals and reclosable seals may be obtained by using optimum materials for those elements while, at the same time, allowing the use of a different material for the walls of the package.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1989Date of Patent: August 24, 1993Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Products, Inc.Inventors: David A. Heintz, Steven H. Simonsen, Wayne M. Wegner
