    Abstract: The present invention relates to a methodology for assembling a document from content spanning multiple web-pages employing two cooperative processes. Given a starting location, one process analyzes a single page at a time to find candidate links. The links are recursively followed and those pages are analyzed. A detailed set of heuristics is used to determine what is or is not a candidate link. The links are examined for link clusters and a table of contents if found is identified. The candidate pages are then fed to a document-level analyzer. This process compares the attributes of one page against the others and looks for a document-like structure. Using another detailed set of heuristics, the document-level analyzer determines if the page should be included in the document.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for determining a document's overall effectiveness or quality using a technique that employs detecting correlation between document citation rate and document presentation elements such as style and layout. A document's citation rate is the number of citations of or references to that document from other documents. This is taken as an indicator of a document's overall effectiveness. This invention employs automated means to obtain, for a sample of documents, both presentation data and citation rate data. Presentation data is obtained, for each document in the sample, by automated inspection of the document, for stylistic elements. The citation rate for each document is based on the number of citations (e.g., hyperlinks) to that document from another set of documents, the larger the set the better.

Tags allow the user to specify a desired version, while selection nodes allow the content to be automatically selected, styled and formatted to optimize a set of constraints.     Abstract: What is disclosed is a user interface metaphor for grouping and organizing documents on a desktop while they are still in use or until a final organizational structure is chosen. The present invention allows them to be grouped and organized, yet remain individually accessible within the limited screen real-estate that is typically available. Therein, documents are collected in virtual piles that are built by dragging and dropping document icons on top of each other to form a pile. Icons not on the top of the pile are represented by line segments of varying widths, lengths, and colors indicating document size, type, priority, etc. The method replaces the typical icons with lines of varying dimensions, colors and patterns that can be stacked together into a compact virtual pile. If the mouse is rolled over the line segment representing one of the documents, the full name of the document would be displayed.
