Abstract: A communication destination device includes a transceiver configured to exchange communication with a first endpoint device via a first wireless communication channel and configured to exchange communication with a second endpoint device via a second wireless communication channel, the second wireless communication channel being distinct from the first wireless communication channel. The communication destination device includes a translator element configured to receive a message from one of the first endpoint device and the second endpoint device and to translate the message from a first message format into a second message format, the second message format being distinct from the first message format.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for noise reduction employ a first processor having one or more channels, each channel comprising a respective first processor filter, and each channel configured to receive a respective one of one or more input signals. The first processor is configured to provide an intermediate output signal. The apparatus and method further employ a second processor including a second processor filter configured to receive the intermediate output signal and to provide a noise-reduced output signal. The apparatus and method further employ a first adaptation processor coupled to the first processor and a second adaptation processor coupled to the second processor. In some embodiments, an echo canceling processor reduces an echo portion associated with the noise-reduced output signal. In some embodiments, a response of the first filter portion and of the second filter portion are dynamically adapted.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for noise reduction is described. The method and apparatus can be used in a hands-free communication system to provide a hands-free a communication system having improved intelligibility. The apparatus includes a first and a second processor, each separately dynamically adapted to changing signals and noise, to improve a signal to noise ratio.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining a speech-encoding rate in a variable rate vocoder are disclosed. A set of thresholds are computed based on background noise energy and its variation. A signal energy value of an input signal is computed, and a rate decision is made based on comparisons of the computed signal energy value with the computed thresholds. In one embodiment, a preliminary rate and a hangover interval are first computed based on the comparisons. The preliminary rate decision is then modified to take into account hangover constraints, a long term prediction gain and minimum and maximum rate constraints.
