  • Publication number: 20080255244
Abstract: A method of treating a cancer (e.g., myeloid leukemia) in a subject in need thereof, is carried out by administering the subject a CaM kinase II (CaMK II) inhibitor. In some embodiments, the CaMK II inhibitor is administered concurrently with a retinoid. In some embodiments, the CaMK II inhibitor is CaMK II gamma inhibitor. Compositions and formulations useful for carrying out such methods are also described.

  • Patent number: 5830760
Abstract: Methods for establishing continuous SCF dependent lympho-hematopoietic progenitor cell lines capable of differentiating into erythroid, myeloid, and B lymphocytic lineages, and GM-CSF dependent neutrophil progenitor cell lines capable of differentiating into neutrophils but not into monocytes, mast cells, or basophils, by introducing into bone marrow, fetal spleen, fetal liver, or other hematopoietic myeloid cells nucleic acid encoding a dominant negative suppressor of a retinoic acid receptor-alpha and a selectable marker, and culturing the recombinant cells in culture medium containing SCF or GM-CSF, agents allowing for selective growth of the recombinant cells, and a level of retinoic acid of less than about 10.sup.-8 M to about 10.sup.-9 M in the case of establishing neutrophilic progenitor cell lines. Addition of a retinol compound induces the latter cell line to differentiate into neutrophils.

  • Patent number: 5829903
Abstract: A writing implement includes a ball point pen and corresponding cap at one end, and a highlight marker and corresponding cap at the other end. The highlight marker cap includes an integral blade portion which functions as a bookmark. The writing implement and cap are adapted to be slidably received over the spine of a book wherein the blade portion of the highlight marker cap extends downwardly between the pages of the book, and the body of the writing implement extends downwardly along the outside of the book spine.
