Patent number: 9608902Abstract: A path selection unit selects a network communication path from a plurality of available network communication paths for transmitting data from a hybrid network device to a destination network device. A packet transmit unit determines path connection characteristics associated with the selected network communication path. The packet transmit unit generates a hybrid network packet for transmitting the data to the destination network device based, at least in part, on the path connection characteristics associated with the selected network communication path. The packet transmit unit transmits the hybrid network packet to the destination network device via the selected network communication path.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2012Date of Patent: March 28, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Rahul Malik, Etan Gur Cohen, Steven J. Kuhn

Publication number: 20150103680Abstract: Described embodiments are directed to systems, methods, and apparatuses for dynamically scheduling channel dwell times across two or more channels across a single radio using Multi-Channel Concurrency. Communications may be transmitted and/or received over a first channel of the radio during a first dwell time of a dwell period and over a second channel of the radio during a second dwell time of the dwell period. Some embodiments include adjusting the dwell period and/or dwell time spent actively transmitting or receiving on two or more channels based on measured channel utilization metrics, to drive toward a balanced utilization across the two or more channels. Other embodiments include adjusting the dwell period and/or dwell time of multiple channels based on latency information and/or priority information of at least one of the channels.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2014Publication date: April 16, 2015Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Kumar Anand, Steven J. Kuhn, Alireza Raissinia

Patent number: 8542588Abstract: A device or chip can be designed and/or programmed to select different sets of wireless link rate determination operations that account for different degrees of presentation time sensitivity that correspond to different classes of traffic. The device or chip can infer or explicitly determine presentation time sensitivity based, at least in part, on traffic class. The selected wireless link rate operations select link rates for the different classes of traffic. A first set of the wireless link rate determination operations can choose a smoother and more stable wireless link rate for the wireless traffic class that conveys presentation time sensitive content. A second of the wireless link rate determination operations can choose a fastest possible wireless link rate, which may be more susceptible to jitter and delay, for a traffic class that is less sensitive.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2008Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Steven J. Patent number: 8391135Abstract: An access point and an integrated circuit including processor are disclosed operating the transceiver to create a station link table for a link to the station, a channel quality estimate of the home channel, an other channel quality sample log for at least one other channel and an other channel quality estimate based upon the other channel sample log. The processor using the station link table and the channel quality estimate of the home channel to determine if the access point has difficulty meeting the minimum required bandwidth and responds to difficulty by determining if the other channel can meet the minimum required bandwidth and schedule changing the home channel to the other channel.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2010Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Steven J. Publication number: 20120271902Abstract: A forwarding device can establish a communication link with both a source device and a destination device to extend the communication range of the source device by forwarding data from the source device to the destination device. A coordinating device can be configured to identify a forwarding client through which to communicate with a client station that is inaccessible to the coordinating device via a direct communication link, based on the throughput achieved on communication links between the coordinating device, the inaccessible client, and accessible clients. The throughput achieved on the communication links can be determined by exchanging training packets, receiving acknowledgement messages in response to the training packets, and subsequently analyzing the received acknowledgement messages. Based on the calculated throughputs, one of the accessible clients can be designated as the forwarding client with respect to the coordinating device and the inaccessible client.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2011Publication date: October 25, 2012Applicant: Atheros Communications, Inc.Inventors: Roshan R. Baliga, Steven J. Kuhn

Patent number: 7804886Abstract: System having wearable components operable in mobile outdoor conditions and methods of using the same are presented. A system may include at least one speaker, a microphone, a first transceiver coupled to a first antenna, a second transceiver coupled to a second antenna, the first and second transceivers operating under first and second protocols, respectively. A controller and a power source are also provided. In one embodiment, a system may include an audio assembly, a housing assembly, a resilient seal, and a housing receptacle. The housing assembly may be in releasable engagement with the receptacle. A method of controlling a user device in accordance with one embodiment of the invention may include receiving data transmitted according to a second protocol, decoding the data and encoding the decoded data according to a first protocol, different from the second, and then transmitting the encoded data to the user device. The method may also be practiced in the reverse direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2007Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Thetaware, Inc.Inventors: Adam J. Silver, Steven J.
