  • Patent number: 8272502
Abstract: Scrap metal pieces are conveyed from a mechanical press by a shaker conveyor having horizontal and parallel spaced elongated trays supported for reciprocating movement by an elongated carriage positioned above a compact drive unit attached to and supported by the press. The drive unit includes an electric motor connected to rotate an elliptical input gear on an eccentric axis and in continuous mesh with an elliptical output gear eccentrically connected to an output shaft. A rocker arm and link assembly is eccentrically connected to the output shaft and oscillates a shaft connected to the carriage by one or more rocker arm and link assemblies for reciprocating the trays with rapid acceleration and rapid deceleration. The elliptical input and output gears are identical in size and have the same odd number of teeth, and in one embodiment, the drive unit is located between a set of rocker arm and link assemblies.

  • Patent number: 7975835
Abstract: Scrap metal pieces are conveyed from a mechanical press by a shaker conveyor having horizontal and parallel spaced elongated trays supported for reciprocating linear movement above a compact drive unit attached to and supported by the press. The drive unit includes an electric motor having a shaft connected to rotate an elliptical input gear on an eccentric axis and in continuous mesh with an elliptical output gear eccentrically connected to an output shaft. A rocker arm and link assembly is eccentrically connected to the output shaft and oscillates in response to rotation of the output shaft. The assembly is pivotally connected to a support carriage for the trays for reciprocating the trays with rapid acceleration and rapid deceleration at one end of the linear stroke of the carriage and trays. The elliptical input and output gears are identical in size and have the same odd number of teeth.

  • Patent number: 6931987
Abstract: A vertically retractable door system for a stamping press includes a pair of vertical mounting plates having generally vertical opposing door guide channels with inwardly curved lower portions. A door with windows extends between the plates and includes support blocks enclosing bushings supporting rollers within the guide channels. Spring biased locking pins extend through a pair of the bushings into selectable vertically spaced holes within the mounting plates, and a rotatable latch handle is supported by the door and is connected to the locking pins by a drum and cable system for retracting the pins. The mounting plates have removable blocks within recesses extending from the channels to facilitate easy removal of the door, and enclosed counterweights are connected by cables and pulleys to the door to facilitate manual movement of the door between an upper retracted position and a lower closed position sloping downwardly and inwardly towards the press.

  • Patent number: 6186318
Abstract: An elongated low profile sheet metal tray has a bottom panel adapted to seat on the bolster plate of a stamping press under a die set. The panel supports adjacent upper and lower runs of an endless belt directed around guide rollers and a drive roller supported by cast support members removably connected to opposite ends of the tray. A motor and gear reducer unit is mounted on one support member and drives the belt drive roller, and the sheet metal tray has opposite integral side rails forming inclined surfaces and channel portions enclosing opposite edge portions of the belt. A sheet of plastics material extends between the bottom panel and the bottom run of the belt, and a detector senses belt stoppage for stopping the motor and stamping press.

  • Patent number: 5495917
Abstract: A solenoid actuated air control valve and a plurality of liquid distribution pumps are mounted on a common elongated manifold having passages for supplying pressurized air and lubricating fluid to the pumps in response to actuation of the solenoid valve. Each of the distribution pumps has an air actuated reciprocating piston, and lubricating fluid is supplied to the manifold and distribution pumps through a line connected to a supply pump also having an air actuated reciprocating diaphragm or piston. The solenoid valve controls the supply pump in timed relation with the distribution pumps, and the supply pump is located within an annular filter unit submerged within a reservoir of lubricating fluid. Each distribution pump is connected by a flexible line to a corresponding spray nozzle having a check valve including a tubular plastic insert which confines a spring bias ball and a resilient annular seat for the ball.
