  • Patent number: 7442345
Abstract: A new reactor apparatus that can be used to carry out chemical reactions in a fluidized catalyst bed at high temperatures with reduced afterburning or other undesirable downstream side reactions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 7, 2004
Date of Patent: October 28, 2008
    Assignee: Ineos USA LLC
Inventors: Louis R. Trott, David R. Wagner, Steven J. Rowe, Robert A. Gustaferro, Gregory A. Norenberg, Kenneth P. Keckler, Robert P. Hepfer
  • Patent number: 5457223
Abstract: A process for the substantial or complete elimination of ammonium sulfate generated during the production of acrylonitrile by the direct ammoxidation of propylene/propane, ammonia and an oxygen containing gas (e.g. air) over a fluid bed catalyst wherein the improvement comprises introducing methanol into said reactor in the upper portion of the reactor at a location where the methanol reacts with at least a portion if not substantially all of the excess ammonia without affecting the acrylonitrile yield. Preferably, methanol is introduced into the reactor at below its coking temperature. In particular, when an oxygen lean fluid bed catalyst is utilized, an additional oxygen containing gas is introduced into the reaction at a distance between about 8 to 14 inches from the methanol feed location.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 11, 1993
Date of Patent: October 10, 1995
    Assignee: The Standard Oil Company

  • Patent number: 5256810
Abstract: An improved process for substantially eliminating, preferably completely eliminating of nitride formation on feed conduits for fluid bed catalyst reactors used in the manufacture of unsaturated nitriles from corresponding olefins, NH.sub.3 and oxygen comprising maintaining the temperature of the ammonia inside the conduit below its dissociation temperature and/or maintaining the temperature of the inside surface of the conduit below the temperature at which any monoatomic nitrogen can react with the conduit to form a nitride.
