Abstract: A system for distributing data includes a volume of encrypted data distributed with activation and decryption software ware. The volume is provided to a user so that is locally accessible on the user's computer. A decryption key which allows encrypted data to be decrypted by accessing a distribution control web site and providing a username and password. The decryption key may be operable only for a part of the encrypted data and may be operable only for a selected period. While the decryption is operable on one computer, a decryption key is not provided to a second computer utilizing the same username and password method for using the system is also disclosed.
