    Abstract: A cassette for vaporization of anesthetic agent for delivery to a patient is arranged to be received by an anesthesia machine which has control mechanisms for controlling vaporization of the agent. In a preferred arrangement, the cassette includes a housing for receiving, containing and emitting anesthetic agent. A sensor, such as a pressure sensor or a temperature sensor is embedded in the housing for obtaining a value of the agent contained in the reservoir. The sensor is operatively connected to the reservoir to obtain an accurate value of the agent. A communication link is provided between the sensor and the control mechanisms of the anesthesia machine when the cassette is received by the anesthesia machine. The cassette thus provides a simplified arrangement that efficiently and accurately provides values of the anesthetic agent being vaporized in the reservoir.

    Abstract: A reservoir for an anesthetic vaporizer is disclosed herein. The reservoir includes an open interior and a high-pressure channel in communication with the open interior. The high-pressure channel is configured to transfer an anesthetic agent from a storage container into the open interior when a pressure level within the storage container exceeds a pressure level within the open interior. The reservoir also includes a low-pressure channel in communication with the open interior. The low-pressure channel is configured to transfer the anesthetic agent from the storage container into the open interior when the pressure level within the storage container is less than or approximately equal to the pressure level within the open interior. The low-pressure channel and the high-pressure channel are configured to prevent the open interior from being overfilled with the anesthetic agent under conditions wherein the pressure level within the storage container exceeds the pressure level within the open interior.

    Abstract: A needle valve in which the needle is moved with respect to its valve seat. The distal end of the needle has a length of a constant, uniform diameter that allows the flow to reach a maximum flow and not change while that finite length is moving within the valve seat. This allows a less critical placement of a stop that prevents further movement of the needle away from its valve seat.
