  • Publication number: 20220205393
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to operate a gas turbine engine with hydrogen gas are disclosed. An example combustor nozzle apparatus of a gas turbine engine includes injecting an other combustible gas into a combustor, comparing a power output of the gas turbine to a rated power threshold, and in response to the power output of the gas turbine satisfying the rated power threshold: injecting water into the combustor, injecting hydrogen into the combustor, and terminating injections of the other combustible gas.

  • Patent number: 11306661
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to operate a gas turbine engine with hydrogen gas are disclosed. An example combustor nozzle apparatus of a gas turbine engine includes a first circuit to transport a blend of hydrogen gas, inert gas, and/or other combustible gas from a supply to a gas turbine combustor, the blend of hydrogen gas, inert gas, and/or other combustible gas including between 100% hydrogen gas, 100% inert gas, or 100% other combustible gas, a second circuit to transport water from the supply to the gas turbine combustor, and a nozzle tip. The nozzle tip includes a first outlet in connection with the second circuit to provide the water to the gas turbine combustor, and a second outlet in connection with the first circuit, the second outlet concentrically positioned within the first outlet to provide the blend of hydrogen gas, inert gas, and/or other combustible gas to the gas turbine combustor.

  • Publication number: 20160356703
Abstract: A gas detector and method are presented. The gas detector includes a launcher unit for coupling and merging light beams in mid-infrared and infrared wavelength ranges into a single light beam and directing the merged single light beam towards a gas flow path; a receiver unit for generating at least one photo detector current signal based on the light beam transmitted through the gas flow path; and a control unit for processing at least one photo detector current signal to measure concentration of the at least two gases present in the gas flow path.

  • Patent number: 7293400
Abstract: A method of monitoring a physical parameter comprises receiving a sensor signal representative of an actual value from each of a plurality of sensors. The method further comprises calculating confidence value for each sensed value and a weighted average of actual values of the sensor signal by weighting each sensed value by the respective confidence value. The weighted average is used to determine a corresponding value of the sensed parameter.

  • Patent number: 6973791
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for operating a gas turbine engine without sustained detrimental levels of dynamic pressure are provided. The engine includes a combustor. The method includes determining the combustor acoustic level amplitude, comparing the acoustic level to a predetermined upper acoustic limit, and adjusting a fuel flow distribution to the combustor using a closed loop controller to facilitate reducing the acoustic level to a predetermined lower acoustic limit that is less than the upper acoustic limit.

  • Patent number: 6457933
Abstract: An orifice plate assembly for a gas turbine engine that facilitates extending a useful life of bearing assemblies within the gas turbine engine is described. Each orifice plate assembly is coupled in flow communication with an engine air source, and includes a first body portion and a second body portion. The first body portion includes a channel and a flow opening. The channel is sized to receive the second body portion, such that the second body portion may slide with respect to the first body portion. The orifice plate assembly is adjustable after engine shutdown to regulate bearing loading.
