Abstract: A fishing indicator device is disclosed which includes a magnet (32, 507) and a reed switch (30, 430) for detecting the magnet and providing an output signal. A display (40, 412) is provided which includes a processor for receiving the output signal and for calculating a particular parameter indicative of movement of fishing line retrieval speed, distance of line movement and bite indication for display on the display (40, 412) or for causing an alarm to sound. The reed switch (30, 430) may be coupled to the processor and display (40) by hard wiring or by wireless transmission. The magnet (32, 507) may be provided on a rotatable wheel (402) which receives the line so that when the line moves, the wheel is rotated to cause the magnet to pass the reed switch (30, 430) so that the reed switch outputs the signal. The wheel (402, 442) may be housed within a housing (400) and the wheel and housing (400) may form one of the line guides which is coupled to the fishing rod for guiding the line.
