  • Publication number: 20090146959
Abstract: A portable terminal includes an input device with five binary switching elements on a housing for the portable terminal and a display screen. The input device accesses telecommunications capabilities of the portable terminal. The display screen displays a graphical representation that can show an indication of the functions corresponding to the input device, a response to input received via the input device, and operation modes of the portable terminal. The operation modes of the portable terminal can be changed in response to receipt of input via the input device.

  • Publication number: 20060195063
Abstract: A syringe including a barrel and a plunger slidably disposed within the barrel is disclosed. A distal end of the barrel defines a roof, and an elongate tip, in fluid communication with the barrel, extends from the roof. A protrusion forming a ridge may be disposed on one of the roof of the barrel and the plunger head. When the plunger head contacts the roof, the protrusion forms a channel between the plunger head and the roof. The channel isolates fluid within the channel from the elongate tip, which in turn reduces the spray of fluid through the distal end of the syringe. In another embodiment to reduce the spray of fluid through the distal end of the syringe, an impulse reduction system may be used to reduce or prevent the proximal portion from applying a distally directed impulse to the distal portion after the breakable connection is broken.

  • Publication number: 20040199113
Abstract: A syringe comprising a barrel and a plunger rod having a proximal portion and a distal portion is provided. The distal portion includes a stopper slidably positioned in fluid-tight engagement with the inside surface of the barrel. The structure is provided for holding the proximal portion and the distal portion together during normal use of the syringe and breakable upon application of an additional force applied to the proximal portion. Structure is also provided for preventing the proximal portion from applying distally directed force to the distal portion after the breakable connection is broken.

  • Publication number: 20040176722
Abstract: A single-use syringe comprises a barrel having a proximal end, a distal end and an inside surface, and a plunger rod having a proximal portion and a distal portion connected by a disengageable connection. The plunger rod further includes a stopper on its distal end. The disengageable connection is strong enough to hold the proximal and distal portions together during normal use of the syringe and disengageable upon application of an additional force applied to the proximal portion. A catch on the proximal portion of the plunger rod and a discontinuity in the chamber engage to prevent removal of the proximal portion from the barrel.

  • Patent number: 6666359
Abstract: A controlled-dose dispenser is useful to provide drops of liquid substances such as drugs, vaccines, ophthalmic solutions or other fluid solutions. The dispenser includes a body preferably made from two sheets of plastic material that are thermoformed in face-to-face relationship. A portion of the body is generally flat with a reservoir, which preferably is generally rounded, in a central portion. The reservoir is adapted to contain a chosen liquid substance. An outlet port is in fluid communication with the reservoir. An outlet nozzle is secured to the outlet port. A cap portion seals off the end of the outlet nozzle until a breakable or frangible connection is broken to remove the cap portion. Once the cap portion is removed, the liquid substance within the reservoir can be dispensed through the nozzle and the cap portion preferably cannot be replaced so that the dispenser is especially suited to be a single-use device.

  • Publication number: 20030210224
Abstract: An input device disposed on the rotatable cover of a portable terminal. The input device is a compound switch that has five binary switching elements. The input device includes an outer, ring-shape element and inner, circular-shape element. When a switching element is actuated, the portable terminal responds, wherein the response is a function of the operating mode of the portable terminal. A graphical representation of the input device appears in the display screen of the portable terminal. The graphical representation includes up to five icons, which correspond to the five binary switching elements. The icons are visually suggestive of the function of the associated switching element. The icons change, as a function of operating mode, to reflect the change in function of the switching elements from mode to mode.
