Patent number: 11210120Abstract: Systems, methods, and software described herein manage volumes and virtual machines using a location database gathered from a hypervisor management system. In one example, a method of operating a volume attachment service to manage volumes and virtual machines includes transferring a location request to a hypervisor management service to identify locations of one or more virtual machines. The method further provides, receiving the locations of the one or more virtual machines and storing the locations in a location database. The method also includes identifying a volume action request for a first virtual machine, and directing the volume action request to a hypervisor of the first virtual machine based on the locations in the location database.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2015Date of Patent: December 28, 2021Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Matthew Conover, Steven Lawson, Jeffrey Paul Ulatoski

Patent number: 10324744Abstract: Described herein are systems, methods, and software to provide virtualized computing sessions with attachable volumes to requesting users. In one implementation, a virtual computing service identifies a service login for an end user to initiate a virtual computing session. In response to the service login, the virtual computing service identifies a virtual machine to allocate to the virtual computing service, and initiates a user login process to log the end user into the virtual machine. The virtual computing service further initiates, prior to completing the user login process, a volume attach process to attach at least one storage volume to the virtual machine based on credentials associated with the service login.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2015Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Ulatoski, Steven Lawson, Matthew Conover

Patent number: 9873517Abstract: A de-icing system for a hemispherical protective housing mounted on an aircraft structure is described. The system can include a series of piezo-electric devices mounted at the boundary of the housing. The piezo-electric devices generate ultrasonic frequencies and resonance of the protective housing is induced. One of the piezo-electric devices senses the frequency generated in the protective housing and acts as part of a feedback loop to maintain structural resonance of the protective housing. The structural resonance of the protective housing prevents the build-up of ice. Additionally, higher power resonances can be generated to remove ice already built up on the protective housing. The system also enables detection of ice build-up on the protective housing by monitoring any change in the frequency required to maintain structural resonance of the protective housing.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2013Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: LEONARDO MW LTDInventors: John Ronald MacLean, Douglas Stuart Maguire, Jack Paterson, Steven Lawson

Patent number: 8615163Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that provide a framework, e.g., a Java®-based toolkit, that provides various levels of abstraction according to the needs of the designer. The abstraction levels are each associated with a set of packages that provide functionality suitable to the level. A user or designer accesses the level packages within the framework and employs the same to create a desired computer-readable media, e.g., a Blu-ray® disc or “BD”. Other aspects may provide corresponding or complementary functionality. For example, the framework abstracts drawing or graphics primitives to higher-level entities, allowing the same to be easily employed in the creation of arbitrary graphical elements. In another example, a business logic module may be employed which can be customized by using settings files.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2010Date of Patent: December 24, 2013Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.Inventors: Saravana Prabhu Anbananthan, Steven Lawson
