    Abstract: Methods are disclosed herein for maintaining stem cells in an undifferentiated state in vitro. The methods include contacting the stem cells with an effective amount of a catalytic antioxidant. Also disclosed are methods for the increasing the number of stem cells in vitro while maintaining the stem cells in an undifferentiated state. The methods include contacting the stem cells with an effective amount of a catalytic antioxidant and an effective amount of one or more growth factors that promotes the expansion of the stem cells.
