    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a topical composition that treats and reduces the visual appearance of a scar through the combination of a hydrophilic occlusion forming agent (e.g., having a water solubility of more than about 75%, such as glycerin) with one or more proteolytic enzymes and an antioxidant system that includes polyphenol antioxidants (e.g., green tea polyphenols). Also disclosed herein are methods of administering the topical compositions described herein for treating and/or reducing the visual appearance of a scar by themselves or as part of a scar treatment regimen in combination with a variety of dermatological procedures. Processes of preparing the topical compositions disclosed herein are also described in certain embodiments.
