  • Patent number: 7058759
Abstract: A method is disclosed for configuring a disk drive to support a targeted storage format for at least one surface of a disk on the disk drive, wherein the disk drive comprises a disk drive control system for executing a first firmware code image corresponding to the targeted storage format. The method includes receiving in the control system a format-selection parameter relating to a format-specific code portion selected from a plurality of format-specific sub-portions wherein each sub-portion corresponds to a specific storage format. The method further includes configuring the firmware code image by the control system from the selected format-specific sub-portion and a second code portion wherein the second code portion is executable by the control system for each of the format-specific sub-portions; and executing the configured firmware code image by the control system wherein the executing configures the control system to support the targeted storage format.

  • Patent number: 6243223
Abstract: A disk drive has a sampled servo system controller and a disk with a plurality of angularly spaced servo wedges. Each of the servo wedges contains angularly aligned servo burst fields that are radially adjacent to one another and spaced apart by an erase field. In order to eliminate or minimize servo position signal errors caused by a wide-reading transducer head encountering signals from both of a pair of angularly aligned servo burst fields, the servo burst fields are recorded in opposing phase.

  • Patent number: 4928084
Abstract: A vehicle brake light and display system employs a display screen having an array of light emitting diodes arranged to transmit a selected pattern or message in red light. A fixed or programmable memory has sets of data stored therein that can be selectively extracted to energize certain of the light emitting elements and display a single line of a selected message. Upon actuation of the brake of the vehicle in which the display screen is mounted, display of the message is disabled, and all of the light emitting elements are energized to provide a solid display of red over the entire screen. As a further safety feature, the display is maintained in a disable condition until initial application of the brake, and thereafter subsequent applications of the brake will cause display of the brake light over the entire display panel.
