Abstract: The present invention is the controlled shutdown of the preregistration, fuser, dedicated duplex tray, and machine exit zones of the copy sheet handling system of a machine. In particular, a control data base includes a packet phase describing the origin and destination and all specific details of how each individual copy sheet is to move through the system, a tracker phase showing the current physical location of the sheet in the system, wherein both the lead edge and trail edge of each sheet is tracked and dynamically updated at each control point, and a fault phase showing the specific element that has the fault and which edge of the sheet is the fault, and also showing that a fault has been responded to by the system.

Abstract: The present invention is a reproduction machine having a non-volatile memory for storing indications of machine consumable usage such as photoreceptor, exposure lamp and developer, and an alphanumeric display for displaying indications of such usage. In operation, a menu of categories of machine components is first scrolled on the alphanumeric display. Scrolling is provided by repetitive actuation of a scrolling switch. Having selected a desired category of components to be monitored by appropriate keyboard entry, the subcomponents of the selected category can be scrolled on the display. In this manner, the status of various consumables can be monitored and appropriate instructions displayed for replacement. In another feature, the same information on the alphanumeric display can be remotely transmitted.

Abstract: A control and an alphanumeric display in a reproduction machine for selectively displaying to an operator messages in either a normal, scroll or marquee fashion to simplify and assist operator interaction with the machine. In particular, a plurality of operator messages are stored in the read only memory in the control. Upon the need to display operator messages during the operation of the machine, the control decodes a specific code associated with the particular message and in response to the code selectively activates a mode of display, either normal, marquee or scroll, for the particular message.
