Patent number: 11543947Abstract: In various embodiments, methods and systems for implementing a multi-device mixed interactivity system are provided. The interactivity system includes paired mixed-input devices for interacting and controlling virtual objects. In operation, a selection profile associated with a virtual object is accessed. The selection profile is generated based on a selection input determined using real input associated with a selection device and virtual input associated with a mixed-reality device. The selection device has a first display and the mixed-reality device has a second display that both display the virtual object. An annotation input for the virtual object based on a selected portion corresponding to the selection profile is received. An annotation profile based on the annotation input is generated. The annotation profile includes annotation profile attributes for annotating a portion of the virtual object. An annotation of the selected portion of the virtual reality object is caused to be displayed.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2021Date of Patent: January 3, 2023Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Michel Pahud, Nathalie Riche, Eyal Ofek, Christophe Hurter, Steven Mark Drucker

Patent number: 9384181Abstract: Descried herein are various technologies to visualizing data in a spreadsheet application. Customized visualizations are generated by binding a user-defined equation with a parameter of a primitive visual shape that has been selected by the user to visualized a dataset. The user-defined equation takes as input a value of data in a cell of the spreadsheet application, and the primitive visual shape is displayed to the user as a function of the output of the user-defined equation.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2010Date of Patent: July 5, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Danyel Fisher, Steven Mark Drucker, Roland Fernandez, Vikram Bapat, Robert Scott Silverstein, Xiaoji Chen, Anson An-Chun Tsao, Oscar Pawel Kozlowski

Publication number: 20150234571Abstract: A sequence of low-level user input events that takes place during a demonstration is converted into a sequence of high-level events which is used to identify portions of a screencast video of the demonstration as event portions. A presenter rehearses, edits, and re-performs the demonstration during a live presentation by playing back an augmented version of the video that is generated on-the-fly and during at least one point in time includes visualizations of the current and next high-level events that are automatically overlaid on top of the video at the screen locations where these events takes place. A graphical user interface that includes a video sector and a timeline sector is displayed to the presenter. The augmented version of the video is played back within the video sector. An event timeline that includes an overall timeline showing each of the portions of the video is displayed within the timeline sector.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2014Publication date: August 20, 2015Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Bongshin Lee, Steven Mark Drucker, Pei-Yu Chi

Patent number: 8890890Abstract: The pluggable web-based visualization technique described herein pertains to a method for providing pluggable web-based visualizations for applications. The method selects visualizations from the web to be embedded into a host application on a desktop computing device. The visualizations can be plugged in to a variety of host applications. This empowers end-users, application designers, and visualization designers by allowing greater reuse of existing code. Additionally, end-users do not have to wait for new revisions of existing applications to use the latest techniques. Designers of domain specific visualizations can work on just the visualization and have them incorporated into a variety of different host applications. Users can perform local processing and visualizations on their own machine, yet obtain new visualizations from the web where they can be updated more frequently and where special purpose visualizations are available.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2010Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Microsoft Corp.Inventors: Danyel Fisher, Roland Fernandez, Steven Mark Drucker

Patent number: 8595153Abstract: A multiple model data exploration system and method for running multiple machine-learning models simultaneously to understand and explore data. Embodiments of the system and method allow a user to gain a greater understanding of the data and to gain new insights into their data. Embodiments of the system and method also allow a user to interactively explore the problem and to navigate different views of data. Many different classifier training and evaluation experiments are run simultaneously and results are obtained. The results are aggregated and visualized across each of the experiments to determine and understand how each example is classified for each different classifier. These results then are summarized in a variety of ways to allow users to obtain a greater understanding of the data both in terms of the individual examples themselves and features associated with the data.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2010Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Steven Mark Drucker, Kayur Dushyant Patel, Desney S. Publication number: 20120041953Abstract: A latent topic labels text mining system and method to mine and analyze the content of textual data. Embodiments of the system and method are particularly well suited for use on microblog data to help people identify posts they want to read and to find people that they want to follow. Embodiments of the system and method use a modified Labeled LDA technique (called an L+LDA technique) that analyzes content using a combination of labeled and latent topics. The resultant data is assigned labels one of four labels to generate a lower-dimensional representation of the data that the individual words in a microblog post. This learned topic representation is used to characterize, summarize, filter, find, suggest, and compare the content of microblog posts. Embodiments of the system and method also include visualization techniques such as a tag cloud visualization that is used to visualize microblogging data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2010Publication date: February 16, 2012Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Susan Theresa Dumais, Daniel Ramage, Daniel John Liebling, Steven Mark Drucker
