Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for providing communications services. One method discovers multiple communications networks available to a client communications device. A request for communications service is communicated from the client communications device to at least one service provider. The at least one service provider provides access to at least one of the multiple communications networks. Access to at least one of the multiple communications networks is negotiated with the at least one service provider. Communications service is then received from the at least one service provider via at least one of the multiple communications networks.

Abstract: A system and method for generating validated extensible content using (i) a ubiquitous portable application as a lightweight data form entry tool, (ii) a business-specific DTD, and (iii) a transformation extensible stylesheet language construct (XSL). In an exemplary use, the system and method is employed to create advertisements for, e.g., a directory. Basic copy information is received in a first database accessible to advertisement salespeople. A second database that is accessible to a graphics artist periodically receives the basic copy information from the first database.

Abstract: A user-programmable audio alert system, device, and method includes an audio alert created by a user and programmed into a device, such as a wireless telephone. A user programs and stores in the device a data structure relating an audio alert triggering event to the audio alert. When the device detects an occurrence of the particular audio alert triggering event, the device emits the audio alert related to the triggering event. As such, users are able to customize audio alerts that are easily recognizable and that are associated with a particular event, or signal. Audio alerts can be programmed using different devices and in various formats and can be transmitted to other devices. An audio alert triggering event can modulate an audio alert according to an external variable.

Abstract: A precision holder for hand-held optical scanning digitization devices is provided in which varying thicknesses of source documents may be securely held to a flat table by a support which also functions as a guide along which the scanning device may be accurately and repeatedly moved. In one embodiment, the original document is held by a guide held by a double hinge arrangement and secured by springs pulling toward the table. In another embodiment, the guide is held to the table by springs in a frame and track assembly much like a guillotine. For more accurate use of the scanning device a scanner alignment tray is provided for attachment to allow precise use of scanning devices which do not have a suitable square side to fit against the guide of the described scanning table.

Abstract: A holder for stringed instrument picks is provided in which picks may be temporarily stored by inserting them between adjacent pairs of parallel vanes, which are resiliently displaced to retain the pick. In one embodiment, the vanes may be formed by the coils of a helical spring, and the holder may be attached to the face of a musical instrument or to another convenient flat or curved surface. For more secure or longer term storage, a pick may be inserted in compression between the spring and an underlying pad. A rod may be passed through the spring coils to prevent distortion and movement of the spring.
