  • Patent number: 7281490
Abstract: A gauge for indicating a measured variable such as pressure. The gauge includes a motion detection device including a drive magnet that is adapted to be moveable in response to changes in the variable. The pointer rotation device includes a pivot member, a power magnet coupled to the pivot member, and one or more director members located adjacent the power magnet. Each director member includes a generally helical flange. A pointer is coupled to the pointer rotation device. The director members and the power magnet form a magnetic field adapted to magnetically couple the pointer rotation device to the drive magnet. The pointer rotation device is adapted to rotate about a rotational axis. Movement of the drive magnet in response to changes in the variable rotates the pointer rotation device and the pointer about the rotational axis such that the pointer indicates the measured variable.

  • Patent number: 5012678
Abstract: An overpressure relief plug for safeguarding pressure gauges that tend to damage due to internal overpressure comprising a safety plug for interference sealing fit application to an aperture formed in the pressure gauge housing that otherwise communicates the housing chamber that may be subject to overpressure to the ambient atmosphere, which plug is formed from silicon elastomer to define a shank that is pressed into the housing aperture, a grip portion on one end of the plug shank that is to aid in initially applying the plug to the housing as part of the gauge assembly procedure, and a stop cap at the other end of the shank that forms a head for the plug and that is spherically contoured and defines a planar stop annular surface thereabout having a marginal rim proportioned for firm sealing engagement with the exterior surface of the housing on application of the plug to the housing, with the plug shank and aperture being proportioned to "pop out" of the housing aperture when the pressure of the housing ch

  • Patent number: 4938076
Abstract: A target fluid flow indicator gauge comprising a non-magnetic housing defining inflow and outflow ports and a cross channel including a rounded portion that is curvilinear about an axial center that is coaxial with a fluid flow central axis through the gauge, with the channel rounded portion lying in a plane that extends normally of such axial centers and functions as a conduit for the fluid flow that is to be measured, a leaf spring adjustably and cantilever mounted in an upper portion of the housing chamber and adjacent one end of the spring, which leaf spring at the other end of same is fixed to a rigid lever arm that extends diametrically across the channel rounded portion, an orifice coaxial with said axis through which the fluid flow is directed into the chamber portion and defining a throat portion of novel configuration at the downstream end thereof that opens into the channel portion, with the lever arm mounting a target in centered relation within the orifice throat portion in coplanar, close fittin

  • Patent number: 4841782
Abstract: A target fluid flow indicator gauge comprising a non-magnetic housing defining a target chamber having a rounded portion that is curvilinear about an axial center that is coaxial with a fluid flow central axis through the gauge, with the chamber rounded portion lying in a plane that extends normally of such axial centers, a leaf spring mounted in the housing chamber and adjacent one end of the spring, which leaf spring at the other end of same has fixed to a rigid lever arm that mounts a disc-like target in centered relation within the chamber portion with the housing further defining inflow and outflow fluid ports on opposite sides of and centered on the axial centers and on the target for directing fluid flow against the target and out of the chamber; the lever arm carries a driving magnet assembly adjacent the target that is magnetically coupled through an imperforate wall structure of the housing to an externally located follower magnet assembly that acts through a short lever arm to pivot an indicator po

  • Patent number: 4347744
Abstract: A sealed differential pressure gauge of the general type shown in Phillips and Zoludow U.S. Pat. No. 3,645,140 in which a sealed housing is provided that includes a flexible diaphragm that is to be exposed to differential pressures to operate a sensitive and accurate motion transmitting indicator device that is in the form of a pivotally mounted helix cooperating with a range spring mounted magnet, with the range spring being linked to the diaphragm so that the movement of the diaphragm, indicates differential pressures and changes thereof, operates the indicator device for reading of the gauge. The housing comprises a housing member and back plate therefor that, together with the rim portion of the diaphragm, are shaped to provide for blowout capability of the gauge that is rearwardly directed out of the back of the gauge should overpressures be experienced when the gauge is in operation.

  • Patent number: 4154101
Abstract: An air velocity gauge for direct measurement of low air flow or draft rates in the range of 20-400 feet per minute comprising a generally flat housing of quadrilateral shape defining a draft way therethrough and a set of opposed draft way inlet and outlet openings that are aligned with the plane of the housing that approximate the size and general shape of the way. A vane formed from a strip of Mylar polyester film is suspended pendulum fashion from the upper portion of the housing adjacent the draft way inlet and is creased longitudinally of same to rigidify the vane to act as such rather than as a flexible flap. The housing itself is in the form of an open centered center frame with open sides, to each side of which is applied a transparent side plate held in place by an adhesively backed opaque scale or scale plate that adheres to lands defined by the housing center frame for this purpose.
