  • Publication number: 20080177291
Abstract: System, including methods, apparatus and components thereof, and kits, for connecting to bone using an anchor element configured to be anchored in bone and having a selectively bendable hinge region. In some embodiments, the system may connect the anchor element to connective tissue, a bridge member, and/or to another anchor element by bending the hinge region while the anchor element is disposed in bone, thereby connecting bone to the connective tissue or bridge member, and/or connecting bone members.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 30, 2007
    Publication date: July 24, 2008
Inventors: David G. Jensen, Steven P. Horst
  • Patent number: 7153309
Abstract: A system, including methods, apparatus, components, and kits, for guiding a hole-forming tool and/or a fastener through a bone and then to a bone-repair device that is connected to the bone. In some embodiments, the system may include a guide device including (1) a coupling portion configured to be connected to the bone-repair device adjacent a first surface of a bone; and (2) a guide portion connected to the coupling portion and configured to be disposed adjacent a second surface of the bone that generally opposes the first surface on the bone. The guide portion is configured to guide the at least one hole-forming tool and fastener into the bone and then to a predefined position of the bone-repair device.

Date of Patent: December 26, 2006
    Assignee: Acumed LLC
Inventors: Randall J. Huebner, Steven P. Horst
  • Patent number: 7147640
Abstract: Bone fixators for securing and/or repairing fractures and/or other defects of a distal radius and wrist. The bone fixators may include, among others, (1) a distal mounting element configured to be mounted in a metacarpal bone, or other hand bone, (2) a proximal mounting element configured to be mounted in the radius, the ulna, or other arm bone, (3) a distal member configured to be secured to the distal mounting element, (4) a proximal member configured to be secured to the proximal mounting element, and/or (5) a coupling, connecting the proximal member and the distal member, configured to allow immobilization, as well as adjustable flexion, rotation, and/or translation of the distal member relative to the proximal member.

  • Patent number: 6077271
Abstract: A vise to aid in bending a bone plate. The vise includes an elongate handle and a first clamp mechanism. The clamp mechanism includes a plate-receiving slot having an axis perpendicular to the long axis of the handle and rotationally fixed to the handle. The clamp mechanism also includes a moveable jaw bordering the plate-receiving slot. A jaw tightening mechanism urges the moveable jaw against a bone plate positioned in the plate-receiving slot to thereby secure the plate in the vise.

  • Patent number: 6017347
Abstract: A wire locking sleeve and a wire. The sleeve has a bore and a deformation recess adjacent the bore. The sleeve includes a locking stud positioned adjacent the deformation recess and bore. The locking stud is deformable toward the bore interlockingly to engage a portion of the wire disposed therein. Deformation of the sleeve around the bore is achieved by applying a transverse compressive force to the locking stud.
