  • Patent number: 5738514
Abstract: An orthodontic appliance has two telescoping cylinders having springs therein to urge the cylinders apart. The outer cylinder is then slidably inserted into a third cylinder. The outer ends of the cylinders are attached to a patient's teeth so the springs exert a force on the teeth when the spring-urged cylinders contact the end of the third cylinder. The cylinders may be separable so the springs can be exchanged, or may be permanently fixed together. The attachments allow universal motion so the lower jaw can move to the full extent of the normal jaw without binding or destroying the appliance.

  • Patent number: 5577912
Abstract: A fixture for attaching a dental prosthesis to a dental implant has a base to be received on the implant, and a head attachable to the base. The base has an angled upper surface, and the head has an angled lower surface, the head being selectively rotatable with respect to the base. As a result, the head can be disposed with respect to the base so that the head will always be perpendicular to the gum line, even though the implant is angled with respect to the gum line. A non-round projection on the head engages a non-round recess on the base to prevent rotational movement when the fixture is installed, and a single screw extends through the head, through the base, and into the implant to hold the assembly together.

  • Patent number: 5133224
Abstract: Bicycle handlebars are adjustable about two axes for providing great versatility in handlebar style. A U-shaped member is fixed to the post of the bicycle and is rotatable at the post in conventional fashion. An axle is fixed to the extending ends of the U-shaped member, and hand grips are fixed to the axle. The hand grips are selectively rotatable about the axle, so there are two axes of rotation, the two axes being parallel to each other. The post preferably includes a toggle joint for quick release, in addition to a screw to allow the clamp of the post to be completely opened.

  • Patent number: 4243387
Abstract: An adjustable bracket for use in orthodontic appliances. The bracket can be fixed to a band to surround a tooth, or to a wire mesh to be cemented directly to a tooth. The bracket has a base to be carried by the tooth, and a movable member to which wires are attached, and a retainer to fix the movable member to the base. In the preferred embodiment, the base and the movable member have spherical surfaces so that motion of the movable member can dispose the bracket at any desired angle in any plane for the desired torque, and in all embodiments the movable member is rotatable about the retainer through 360 degrees and can be set at any desired angle.
