  • Patent number: 9731812
Abstract: An airfoil, a flap mechanism and an associated method are provided to controllably actuate a flap positioned proximate the trailing edge of an airfoil body. The flap mechanism includes a carrier beam hingedly connected to an airfoil body and also pivotally connected to a flap proximate the trailing edge of the airfoil body. The flap mechanism further includes an actuator, a first plurality of links and a second plurality of links. The first plurality of links is operably connected to the airfoil body, the actuator and the carrier beam. The first plurality of links causes the carrier beam to be rotated with respect to the airfoil body in response to actuation by the actuator. The second plurality of links is responsive to rotation of the carrier beam with respect to the airfoil body. The second plurality of links causes the flap to be rotated with respect to the carrier beam.

  • Publication number: 20160137285
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of enhancing aerodynamic performance of an aircraft wing assembly including a fixed section and a foldable section. The foldable section is hinged to the fixed section at a hinge axis. The method includes turning a torque box extending from the foldable section to rotate the foldable section about the hinge axis from a stowed position to a deployed position.

  • Patent number: 9211946
Abstract: A wing fold system of a wing of an aircraft. The system may include a first lock of a latch to prevent movement of a latch pin of the latch to prevent movement of an unfixed portion of the wing with respect to a fixed portion of the wing, the first lock may include a first cam configured to prevent the second lock from transitioning to a second engaged position until the first lock may be in a first engaged position via contact with a second cam of the second lock. A second lock of the latch, the second lock may include the second cam configured to prevent the first lock from transitioning away from the first engaged position until the second lock transitions away from the second engaged position.

  • Patent number: 8201777
Abstract: An external door for use in accessing a cargo area of an aircraft fuselage. The door includes a locking system, a latching system, a lock monitoring system, an uplock used to secure the door in an open position, and an actuating system that assists in at least one of opening and closing the door. The locking system works by interfering with the movement of the latching system components. The locking system includes a monitoring device that prevents the aircraft from being pressurized in case of a malfunction in the locking system. The latching system includes a handle locking system that prevents operation of the latch handle by accident or by ground loading or flight forces. The systems of the door are preferably manually operated, and utilize rigid members.
