  • Patent number: 9308443
Abstract: A method of associating a controller to a console comprises, at the controller, establishing a connection with the console such that the controller is assigned to one of a plurality of different ports of the console over which different controllers may separately communicate with the console. A visual indication is then provided on the controller to indicate to the user of the controller which one of the plurality of different ports of the console has been assigned to the controller and over which the controller communicates with the console.

  • Patent number: 8369795
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing notifications to players of a gaming console of messages and system notifications. A controller and the gaming console include a four quadrant LED indicator. Each quadrant of the ring may be illuminated individually or together using an LED to indicate the messages and notifications. The quadrants may be illuminated in one of three colors and/or in patterns to indicate different types of notifications. Onscreen displays may be used to supplement the LED indicators to convey information to users. A method of binding and discovering a controller is also provided where the controller may be bound to a gaming console. After a controller is bound to a console, the controller may be discovered by the gaming console where it is assigned a virtual port and enabled for game play.

  • Publication number: 20080163133
Abstract: Entertainment devices often display interfaces that are perceived from a distance. To render the interface intelligible at a distance, a limited interface is used. However, often the user is presented with a large number of choices, which can be tedious and time-consuming to review using such a limited interface. The selection from among multiple sorting mechanisms, all from within a single screen, can enable the user to quickly sort, in the manner most appropriate for that user, the available choices. If the sorting order results in the relevant choices being listed last, a reverse sort option can be used, again from within the same screen.

  • Publication number: 20080163284
Abstract: Described are a system and a corresponding user interface that couple to a media service to provide browse-filtered access to media content, in a manner that facilitates location and/or selection of a particular content item. For example, filtering categories (e.g., new arrivals, genre, and so forth) are listed vertically for navigation and selection in one column, with representations of available content (e.g., top downloads) listed vertically in another column. Queries corresponding to a home page menu as controllable via user input provide the listed items, whereby the user may navigate and select content and filtered submenus via a simplified user interface input mechanism, such as a D-Pad or the like. One filtering category may include a ratings-based category, in which a user is matched to content items based upon ratings provided by at least one ratings source affiliated with the service (a friends list).
