A transverse passageway extends between the first and second fluid passageway. A first valve is disposed in the transverse passageway for one-way fluid flow from the first to the second passageway. A second valve and a thermal actuator coupled to the second valve are disposed in the second passageway. The thermal actuator moves the second valve to fluid flow blocking or fluid flow allowing positions dependent upon fluid temperature.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to an improved disconnect tool (15). In the preferred embodiment, the disconnect tool is comprised of a first member (16) and a second member (18) connected by a pivot pin (19). The tool includes an engagement means (23) and an expansion means (22) to facilitate the engagement and expansion of a retaining clip so as to permit insertion and removal of a fluid line (39) from a fluid coupling assembly (41). In the preferred embodiment, the expansion means takes the form of a castellated tube portion with a plurality of fingers (20) defining a plurality of grooves (21) therebetween. The fingers are used expand the retaining clip radially and outwardly so as to permit the fluid line to be removed from the fluid coupling assembly. In addition, the present invention is also directed to a method for removing a fluid line from a fluid coupling assembly through the use of a disconnect tool.

    Abstract: A novel fluid coupling and seal assembly. The assembly includes a coupling body 12 having generally concentric first and second bores 36,38 of greater and lesser diameters, respectively, the first bore also being provided with a generally cylindrical groove 44. A resilient retainer 14 is assembled within the generally cylindrical groove, the retainer having a plurality of prongs 52 which extend inwardly and towards the second groove. A seal assembly 16 is disposed within the coupling body between the retainer and the second bore, the seal assembly including an O-ring 60 formed of an elastomeric material and a tearable diaphragm 64 integral with and of the same material as the O-ring and capable of blocking the passage of fluid through the O-ring prior to the insertion of a fluid line 24. The fluid line which is adapted to be associated with the coupling is provided with a flange 26 which is engaged by the free ends 58 of the resilient prongs to hold the fluid line within the coupling assembly.

    Abstract: A novel fluid coupling assembly in combination with a fluid line provided with a controlled leak path. The fluid coupling assembly includes a coupling body 12 having generally concentric first and second bores 36, 38, of greater and lesser diameters, respectively, there being a radial surface 40 between the bores, the first bore also being provided with a generally cylindrical groove 44. A resilient retainer is assembly with in the generally cylindrical groove, the retainer having a plurality of prongs 52 which extend inwardly towards the second bore. A bushing 15 is force fit into the first bore between the cylindrical groove 44 and the radial surface. A seal 16 is disposed within the coupling body between the bushing and the radial surface.

    Abstract: A fluid coupling for connecting a fluid line to a threaded port. The coupling includes a male member having a free end, a shoulder portion, and a tapered portion between the free end and the shoulder portion. The female member is provided with an enlarged portion, a groove in a reduced diameter portion which is disposed on the male coupling side of the female coupling, and a threaded end portion on the other side. The female member also has a bore having an enlarged portion and a reduced diameter portion, the reduced diameter portion in turn receiving an O-ring. Slots are provided in the female member between the spring clip groove and the enlarged portion for the reception of a spring clip.

    Abstract: A novel fluid coupling, a novel tool for removing a coupling seal from the novel fluid coupling, and the method of utilizing the coupling seal removal tool. The coupling 10 includes a check valve 58 which has a skirt portion 64 normally disposed within a coupling seal when either a male coupling 12 is connected to it, or when the male coupling has been removed. The female coupling is so designed that the skirt of the check valve can be entirely shifted outside of the coupling seal 62 when the novel seal removal tool 68 is inserted into the open end of the coupling. The tool is provided with a knife edge (between surfaces 82 and 84) which can engage the inner annular surface of the seat 62 and cause the seal to be removed when the tool is removed from the open end of the female coupling.

    Abstract: A fluid coupling assembly which is capable of interconnecting an oil cooler 26 disposed within a radiator header with an oil line 200 or 300 terminating outside of said header. The coupling includes a tubular fitting 204 or 304 which has a first portion brazed about a port 32 in the oil cooler and a second portion which is adapted to be secured to a header wall 37 or 70. The tubular fitting is provided with a bore and the tubular connector end portion 202 or 302 of the oil line is adapted to be telescoped within the bore to an assembled position. A seal 206 or 306 is mounted within the bore. Coupler means 208 or 308 are provided for holding the tubular fitting and the tubular connector end portion in their assembled position, the coupler means including a radially outwardly extending surface 246 or 346 on the tubular connector end portion and a spring wire clip 248 or 348 received within a groove 242 or 342 on the tubular fitting.
