  • Publication number: 20190350699
Abstract: A therapeutic device for correcting presbyopia in an eyeball having a ciliary muscle and a plurality of suspensory ligaments connecting the ciliary muscle to a lens includes an over-mold that mirrors a contact lens and fits against the eyeball. The over-mold encapsulates a micro thermoelectric generator (“?TEG”) that powers an electrical disc sub-assembly configured for sensing an activation of the ciliary muscle from a relaxed state, in which the ligaments are pulled taut and the lens is stretched into a flat position for distant focus, toward a contracted state, in which the ligaments become less taut and the lens moves into a rounded position for nearby focus. When the ciliary muscle is contracted, the sub-assembly stimulates the ciliary muscle with a minute electric muscle stimulation (“EMS”) to further contract the ciliary muscle, thereby further relaxing the ligaments to further improve nearby focus. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10463363
Abstract: A suture passer comprising: a handle; a first needle mounted to the handle; a retrieving loop selectively extendable out of, and selectively retractable into, the first needle; a second needle mounted to the handle, the second needle being configured to pass suture therethrough; a housing having first and second lumens extending therethrough for receiving the first and second needles therein, respectively; wherein the suture passer is configured so that the first and second needles have (i) a first distance therebetween at the location at which the first and second needles pass through the housing, and (ii) a second distance therebetween at a location remote from the housing, and further wherein the second distance is greater than the first distance.
