Abstract: A device and method for forming a portable network environment outside a managed network environment for sharing content is provided. A portable network device enables authorized consumption of content outside a managed environment. The portable network device may have an internal rechargeable battery and support wireless protocols such as Wi-Fi. The portable network device may act as a Wi-Fi base station allowing access to authorized Wi-Fi clients via a mesh network.

Abstract: Contemplated wastewater treatment plants and processes comprise a unit in which a silicate-containing waste stream is combined with an alkaline process stream to so form a pH-controlled intermediate that is then fed to a reactor in which carbonization effects precipitation of the silicate. Following a particle growth step in the reaction vessel that renders the precipitate suitable for filtration, the so produced silicon dioxide can be safely disposed of in a landfill while the liquid can be discharged or sent to a zero liquid discharge pond to precipitate sodium carbonates.

Abstract: An aircraft motion control mechanism for regulating aircraft motion from a location remote from an aircraft body portion. The aircraft auxiliary control mechanism has at least one control surface support arm connected to and extending from the aircraft body portion, and an auxiliary flow control surface connected to the support arm. By pivotally controlling the movement of the support arm, the auxiliary flow control surface is operative to deflect airflow to regulate orientation of the aircraft. In addition, the auxiliary flow control surface may further deflect the airflow by deflecting about the support arm.

Banner advertisements may be displayed above and below program listings. Panel advertisements may be provided adjacent to program listings. The advertisements may contain video. The advertisements may be used to promote television programs and conventional goods and services. When a user selects an advertisement, the program guide provides the user with an opportunity to order products or services, request information, set reminders for upcoming programs, view program descriptions, record programs, or take other such actions. Embedded advertisements may be provided within the program listings region and may be automatically displayed immediately adjacent to related program listings.

Abstract: A diaphragm pump assembly including a control module for controlling the discharge and suction strokes of the diaphragm. The diaphragm pump includes a pump housing defining a pump chamber having a flexible diaphragm supported within the chamber that divides the chamber into a pumping chamber and a pumpage chamber. The pump control module controls the communication of pressurized fluid, i.e., air, to the pumping chamber. A fluid pressure operated actuator is attached to a housing or bracket that is also secured to the diaphragm housing. The actuator includes an actuating rod that extends into operative engagement with the diaphragm. A direction control valve selectively directs fluid pressure to the pumping chamber during a discharge stroke and to a retraction chamber forming part of the actuator during a suction stroke. An intermediate or detent valve controls the direction control valve.

Users are provided with an opportunity to centrally lock and unlock programs, and to bypass locks when desired.

An exemplary method comprises generating a plurality of thickness measurements of a metal layer using an in-situ eddy current measuring system. The thickness measurements are analyzed to derive a plurality of work piece metrics and the work piece metrics are assessed to determine if a predetermined number is within a predetermined specification. A signal is generated if the predetermined number of the work piece metrics is outside the predetermined specification.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system that permits a variable number of disparate streams of data to be packaged together as content into a single distinct program referred to as an omnimedia package. A framework definition may be specified and created for the omnimedia package to allow a client set top box to decode the information and provide access to streams comprising video, audio and metadata information. The framework definition may be employed by a broadcast system to create a broadcast stream. A mechanism is described that permits a content provider to define a framework for delivering a package of related content. The framework definition encapsulates information necessary to build, format, transmit and display the disparate content streams. Data may be downloaded to a receiver prior to the broadcast of an associated program. The present invention may be implemented on terrestrial, cable, satellite, VDSL and other transport systems, including those that support upstream communication.

The system includes user television equipment having a receiver for receiving program guide information for the interactive television program guide, a user input receiver for receiving user input from user interface, a microprocessor which utilizes the user input received to determine user values for demographic categories, and memory for storing the user values determined. In one illustrative use of the system for targeting advertisements, the receiver also receives advertisements, where the advertisements have preselected values for specified demographic categories. The user television equipment, preferably using a microprocessor, compares the preselected values for the specified demographic categories associated with the advertisements with values of corresponding demographic categories stored in memory to determine which advertisements should be displayed.

Abstract: A vertically sliding freight elevator landing door with a safety brake that deploys when a chain suspending the door breaks. The safety brake is adapted for use on both panels that slide up to open or that slide down to open. The brake, which is simple in construction and installation, comprises, principally, a caliber block fixed to the door and a roller cam assembled in the block. A spring biases the roller cam towards a wedge lock position while a cable normally holds the roller cam in an inactive position. The cable and, therefore, the roller cam are released when the associated door suspension chain breaks. The roller cam, operating between a tilted internal surface in the caliper block and a door guide rail quickly frictionally brakes the door on the guard rail.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system that digitally decodes and combines portions of two or more broadcast video signals in a memory of a set top box in a manner described by a presentation description. The presentation description may be transferred as part of a broadcast video signal or may be accessed across a network. Different presentation descriptions may be sent to different set top boxes depending on set top box type or user preferences. The presentation description may be modified by user input or by stored user preferences. Audio and/or image portions of the video signals may be combined to produce a combined video output. Combination methods include replacement, logical and mathematical operations or a combination thereof. The presentation description may include dynamic variables that specify the manner of combination for a plurality of frames or a specified period of display.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system that generates correlated video signals that are a combination of separate video signals that interrelate to each other in some fashion. The separate video signals are transmitted through a transmission channel to a viewer location. Separate video decoders decode the video signals at the viewer location. Presentation description instructions are also transmitted to the viewer location and are used to generate control signals to control the combination of the video signals at the viewer location.
