  • Patent number: 10101632
Abstract: A dual layer e-screen includes a top layer of a transparent lenticular or parallax material backed by an e-screen made of a material with controllable grey scales such as electronic paper. The top layer is controllable compensates for ambient lighting by creating a controllable surface that allows for uniform light distribution across the screen, while providing for adaptive contrast levels that selectively darken areas where light is not needed to more accurate display shadows from projected images. The eScreen can be additionally arranged to dynamically alter the gray scale matched to the video being shown to support viewing high dynamic range video through a projector. The gray scale used for each pixel element is biased to the ambient lighting conditions to remove the ambient light from the HDR video playback.

  • Patent number: 10084997
Abstract: A deformable lens, deformable micro-mirror array, or combination thereof adjusts an image projected onto a screen to modify that image to compensate for small imperfections in the flatness of the surface the video is being projected onto. Initial calibration can be performed to create a screen profile, that is then used to adjust the optics to compensate for the detected screen anomalies. An initial grid projected onto the screen may be used for this purpose, with a high resolution camera imaging the grid and the perpendicularity, straightness and sharpness of the grid lines then being assessed by a processor to calculate the necessary optical modifications to modify the projected image such that the grid lines are straightened and aligned. In another embodiment a scanning laser is used to assess screen flatness and uniformity with pixel level precision.

  • Publication number: 20180205993
Abstract: For each network or type of content in an Android TV application, a main icon may be presented on a display, and when the screen cursor is positioned over a main icon, 3-5 sub-icons are presented under the main icon. Moving the screen cursor to another main icon causes the first sub-icons to disappear and new sub-icons relating to the new main icon to appear under the new main icon. Each sub-icon represents content associated with the main icon either using trending information, automatic content recommendation (ACR), time of day, etc. The user may select a sub-icon to show the related content. Thus, for each Android TV application, the most important, trending, live, or personal content is made available through the sub-icons such that a limited number of live content subsets is presented to choose from for that network at that moment.

  • Patent number: 9961471
Abstract: Techniques for personalizing audio levels, in accordance with embodiments of the present technology, provide different audio volumes to different locations in a room allowing for two of more users to enjoy the same audio content at different volumes. Differential level and delay compensation filtering based on a position of each of a plurality of speakers, the location of each user and the preferred relative audio volume of each user are utilized to produce different effective audio levels in localized regions of a room.

  • Publication number: 20180014071
Abstract: ACR is used to identify content viewed by a person watching an AVDD such as a smart TV. Content searches of multiple sources and source types may be conducted and the results arranged for presentation by weighting each item of the search result according to the ACR identifications of historical viewing.

  • Patent number: 9858943
Abstract: A setup application in a TV, sound bar, surround sound speaker system, or AVR creates a hearing profile for a user, calibrating various frequencies according to an interactive calibration step. Then, object-based audio, which may include metadata describing the key aspects of the audio, is used to identify the key aspects so that they can be emphasized, using the calibration information, to allow for increased intelligibility and the most natural listening experience possible for the hearing-impaired. EQ calibration for each speaker also may be effected for each user.

  • Patent number: 9807083
Abstract: To provide for security and robustness in distribution of high value video content such as UHD video, a white list is provided that does not grant default access to content like a revocation listing does, but rather forces a software update on potentially compromised devices to bring them back into copy protection compliance, eliminating, e.g., the use of certain outputs that have been compromised. Prior to outputting content, a source device determines whether the receiving device is on a white list, whether the output is still valid, whether the version number of the receiving device is still valid, and that the receiving device does not have insecure outputs on which it could re-output content.

  • Patent number: 9792847
Abstract: Instead of a monochromatic projection screen, an active projection screen is provided which varies reflectance and gray level (black to white) in synchronization with the content being shown. Groups of multiple screen pixels, which are smaller than each projected pixel from the projector, are assigned to each respective larger projection pixel.

  • Publication number: 20170238114
Abstract: An after-market network module is provided for each speaker in a sound system that may have been vended without wireless capability. The module for each speaker receives signals from an audio source for play on the speaker. To assist in locating each speaker for purposes of effective audio set up and channel assignation without requiring undue user input, each network module may include a locator device that wirelessly communicates with a master node in the system.

  • Patent number: 9591350
Abstract: Digital living network alliance (DLNA) hypertext markup language 5 (HTML5) remote user interface (RUI) or VidiPath™ technologies are extended such that a W3C-defined <iframe> element facilitates incorporation of RUI-wrapped content into a client user interface that is a web application designed on the HTML5 RUI or VidiPath™ technology to ensure that remote user interface components of the RUI-wrapped content are rendered as an HTML5 RUI/VidiPath™ server expects, including any authentication protocol needed to verify client capability. In this way, search and playback of content, previously made available through monolithic web application (web app) based Electronic Program Guides (EPG) over a home network, are distributed without losing the programmable and graphics components provided when playing that same content via the monolithic web app EPG.

  • Publication number: 20150215666
Abstract: An electronic visual display includes a screen having a plurality of canvases each configured to display content from at least one content source. The content displayed on each one of the plurality of canvases may be independent of the content displayed on each other one of the plurality of canvases. The display also includes a single software-implemented user agent adapted to receive user selections associated with at least one of the canvases and configured to manage each of the plurality of canvases independently of one another according to the user selections. The user agent is configured to prevent the canvases from overlaying any portion of one another.

  • Publication number: 20150026745
Abstract: A system and method for effectively performing a remote control configuration procedure includes a settop box that receives electronic programming from a program source and a television that is configured to reproduce the electronic programming. A remote control device controls various functionalities of the television over an RC-TV communications link. The remote control configuration procedure is coordinated by the television and a configuration server to allow the remote control device to also control various functionalities of the settop box over an RC-STB communication link. The television and the configuration server support a user-friendly interactive procedure to automatically determine and provide certain settop-box control information for adding appropriate settop-box control functions to the remote control device during the remote control configuration procedure.
