Publication number: 20250130565Abstract: A work machine using a distributed controller network that provides for redundant data buses is described herein. The work machine uses a controller area network that provides for redundant data buses for tier 1 controllers, or controllers that are determined to have a higher degree of importance when compared to other controllers. The controller area network uses redundancy to decrease the probability of a communication failure between tier 1 controllers and tier 2 controllers. The tier 1 controllers have communication access to two data buses between other tier 1 controllers and tier 2 controllers. Thus, if a data bus used by a tier 1 controller cannot be used by the controller, the tier 1 controller can use the other, redundant data bus to maintain communication.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2023Publication date: April 24, 2025Applicant: Caterpillar Underground Mining Pty Ltd.Inventors: Brodie L. Thompson, Steven Robert Krause

Publication number: 20250128611Abstract: A work machine using a direct current power system that isolates reactive loads is described herein. The work machine uses a machine power distribution unit that receives direct current power from two or more battery banks of a power unit, whereby each of the battery banks deliver electrical power on a separate direct current bus. A machine power distribution unit of the work machine receives the electrical power from the battery and is used to isolate the power using bus connectors. One of the battery banks provides power to one direct current bus of the work machine and another battery bank provides power to another direct current bus of the work machine. A reactive load serviced by one of the battery banks is electrically disconnected from another reactive load serviced by the other battery bank.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2023Publication date: April 24, 2025Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Mark Andrew Robinson, Corey Allen Kauk, Michael John Barngrover, Steven Robert Krause, Ben Evans, Keith Nicholas Edward Troisi

Publication number: 20250128637Abstract: A power system for a work machine includes a connection arrangement. The connection arrangement facilitates an operative engagement of terminal sets to provide passage to an electrical connection therethrough and route electrical power supply from electrical power sources to electrical devices of the work machine through the connection arrangement. Further, the connection arrangement facilitates an operative engagement of connector sets to provide passage to communication links therethrough and route data transmission through the connection arrangement. A system for determining a state of the electrical connection between the terminal sets includes a controller configured to detect the data transmission through the communication links; determine the state of the electrical connection between the terminal sets as connected when the data transmission is active; and determine the state of the electrical connection between the terminal sets as disconnected when the data transmission is inactive.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2023Publication date: April 24, 2025Applicant: Caterpillar Underground Mining Pty. Ltd.Inventors: Steven Robert Krause, Martin Victor Pilgrim

Publication number: 20200392696Abstract: A method for operating an implement of a work machine is disclosed. The method includes detecting a progression of an input device between a first position and a second position based on a first parameter and a second parameter; determining a plurality of segments of the progression; estimating a value of the second parameter of at least one first segment and at least one second segment; issuing a baseline signal to generate command to initiate manipulation of the implement if the value of the second parameter of the first segment complies with corresponding second parameter threshold condition; issuing a secondary signal to continue manipulation of the implement if the value of the second parameter of the second segment complies with corresponding second parameter threshold condition; and terminating the command if the value of the second parameter of at least one second segment violates the corresponding second parameter threshold condition.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2019Publication date: December 17, 2020Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Tianjiao Zuo, Joseph Faivre, Bradley Krone, Steven Robert Krause

Patent number: 6850612Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling administration of Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) queues of an ACD or network of ACDs by a caller, and of communicating data to an ACD Agent. The caller receives information concerning the status of queues in one or a plurality of ACDs. If the caller wishes to communicate with a particular Agent, wait time for that Agent is provided to the caller. The caller can select a particular Agent, and will be connected when that Agent becomes available subject to other restrictions of the ACD queue. The caller can prepare information for transmission to an answering Agent while the caller waits. Advantageously, the caller can control which Agent or which sub-group of Agents should respond to his/her call, taking into account the different waiting times associated with a particular Agent or the first available Agent when the caller reaches the top of the queue.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2001Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: John Andrew Johnson, Eric Edward Kampmeier, Steven Robert Krause, David B. Smith, Matthew Richard Smith
