  • Patent number: 8988238
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for monitoring operating machinery, acquiring data regarding characteristic behavior of the machinery being monitored, and processing of the data to determine and indicate when significant deviations from normal operating conditions are occurring that represent maintenance initiating or failure mode events. The method includes learning what normal operating conditions are for a machine of interest by acquiring data during observed normal operation, then calculating detection threshold values based on the acquired data. Finally, real-time monitoring of the machinery of interest during operation is employed, with alarms triggered upon occurrence of a previously-defined number of occurrences of behavior exceeding parameters associated with normal operation behavior.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 21, 2012
Date of Patent: March 24, 2015
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Charles Terrance Hatch, Steven Ross Hadley
  • Publication number: 20140058615
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting anomalous behavior in one of a fleet of machines are provided. Data regarding a single characteristic representative of operation of the mechanical system is collected from each machine in a fleet. The systems and methods are configured for processing of the data to determine and indicate when significant deviations from normal operating conditions are occurring that represent the departure from normal operation condition by one or more of the machines in the fleet.

  • Patent number: 8478547
Abstract: A blade monitoring system for calculating average threshold crossings from interpolated threshold crossings of digital waveform samples is disclosed. Each digital waveform sample is converted by an analog-to-digital converter from one of two split analog signals. Each split analog signal is received from a signal splitter that receives each analog signal from an analog signal transmitter. Each analog signal is from a sensed blade passing signal from at least one row of a plurality of blades on a compressor of a turbine.

  • Publication number: 20130151199
Abstract: A monitoring system for use in an industrial facility is provided. The monitoring system includes at least one sensor configured to detect at least one operating parameter of the industrial facility. A computing device is coupled to the sensor and includes a communication interface that is configured to receive a plurality of signals that are each representative of the operating parameter. A processor is coupled to the communication interface and programmed to calculate a moving average, such as an adaptive moving average, of each signal to enable the identification of at least one fault within the industrial facility. Calculating the moving average of each signal is an iterative calculation based at least in part by calculating a current signal average estimate for a first signal.

  • Publication number: 20120035861
Abstract: A system including a turbine including a compressor having at least one row of a plurality of blades; a sensor for sensing a blade passing signal of at least one of the plurality of blades; an analog signal transmitter for transmitting an analog signal for the blade passing signal; a signal splitter for splitting the analog signal into at least two split analog signals; at least two analog-to-digital (AD) converters, each AD converter converting each split analog signal to at least two digital waveform samples; and a blade monitoring system that: calculates at least two interpolated threshold crossings, each interpolated threshold crossing calculated from at least two digital waveform samples from each AD converter; and calculates an average threshold crossing (ATC) of the at least two interpolated threshold crossings.
