  • Patent number: 9610531
Abstract: A system and method for particle enlargement with continuously wetted wicks includes a container into which a flow of particle-laden air is introduced in a laminar manner through an inlet and to an outlet. The container has a first section, a second section and a third section though which the particle-laden air flows between the inlet and the outlet. The temperature of the second section is warmer than that of the first section at the inlet and the third section at the outlet. In one embodiment, a continuous wick spanning an interior wall of the first second, second section and third section, said wick being capable of internally transporting liquid water along its length is provided.

  • Patent number: 9506630
Abstract: A component housing band includes a center portion that comprises an aperture extending through the center portion and a mounting structure disposed adjacent to the aperture. The mounting structure extends from a surface of the center portion in a direction that is substantially normal to the corresponding surface of the center portion. The mounting structure engages the ends of a notch in a lens and forms a cavity to house an electronic component. Further, the component housing band includes a first elongated arm portion and a second elongated arm portion integral with the center portion and extending away from opposite ends of the center portion in opposite directions, respectively. The ends of the first elongated arm portion and the second elongated arm portion that are away from the center portion and opposite to each other are adapted to engage with corresponding latch structures of the lens.

  • Patent number: 9395281
Abstract: A parallel plate dimensional electrical mobility separator and laminar flow water condensation provide rapid, mobility-based particle sizing at concentrations typical of the remote atmosphere. Particles are separated spatially within the electrical mobility separator, enlarged through water condensation, and imaged onto a CCD array. The mobility separation distributes particles in accordance with their size. The condensation enlarges size-separated particles by water condensation while they are still within the gap of the mobility drift tube. Once enlarged the particles are illuminated by a laser. At a pre-selected frequency, typically 10 Hz, the position of all of the individual particles illuminated by the laser are captured by CCD camera. This instantly records the particle number concentration at each position. Because the position is directly related to the particle size (or mobility), the particle size spectra is derived from the images recorded by the CCD.

  • Publication number: 20150297183
Abstract: An array transducer probe has transducer elements arranged in adjacent patches (62, 64, 66) of groups of transducer elements. A microbeamformer in the probe is coupled to the elements of the array to transmit ultrasound beams and delay echo signals received by the transducer elements. In a standard configuration the elements of each patch (62, 64, 66) are coupled to the summing node (72, 74, 76) of that patch. The elements of each patch may also be coupled to the summing nodes of one or more adjacent patches. For multiline (4?, 6?) reception some of the elements of the active aperture are coupled to the summing node of one patch, and other elements of the active aperture are coupled to the summing node of another patch. This coupling provides at least two different patch signals to channels (82, 84) of a system beamformer for multiline processing.

  • Patent number: 9075363
Abstract: An approach is provided for reducing release agent transfer to a pressure member in a fuser. The approach involves causing, at least in part, at least a first sheeted substrate and a second sheeted substrate to be advanced through a fuser in a process direction. The approach also involves determining the presence of the first sheeted substrate at a fusing position. The approach further involves causing, at least in part, a fuser member and a pressure member to engage to form a fusing nip at the fusing position based, at least in part, on the determined presence of the first sheeted substrate at the fusing position. The approach additionally involves determining the first sheeted substrate has advanced through the fusing nip. The approach further involves causing, at least in part, the fuser member and the pressure member to disengage.

  • Patent number: 9028775
Abstract: This technology is a method and apparatus for the semi-continuous measurement of the concentration of constituents of airborne particles which couples a laminar flow, water condensation particle collector to a microfluidic device for assay of particle chemical composition by electrophoresis. The technology has been used for the assay of sulfates, nitrates, chlorides, and organic acids contained in fine and submicrometer atmospheric particles. For these compounds the apparatus and method described is capable of one-minute time resolution at concentrations at the level of micrograms of analyte species per cubic meter of air. Extension to other analytes is possible.

  • Patent number: 9018882
Abstract: A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) supplies power to rotate a motor, controlling both the speed and direction. The method normally used for this power conversion by the VFD results in energy losses and line harmonics. When the motor is driven by the VFD to be rotating at the same speed and direction as if the motor was straight across the incoming AC power, a transfer in power supply to the motor can be made using contactors to bypass the VFD. When in this bypass mode, the energy losses of the VFD are greatly reduced, and the line harmonics due to the VFD are greatly reduced. When it is subsequently recognized that the speed reference has deviated from being the same speed and direction as if the motor was straight across the incoming AC power, a transfer in power supply can be made from using contactors to once again drive the motor from the VFD.

  • Patent number: 8913912
Abstract: An approach is provided for applying a release agent to a substrate having at least a first surface and a second surface. The approach involves determining a print job type for applying one or more printed images to the substrate to be one of a simplex print job type that applies the one or more printed images to one of the first surface and the second surface and a duplex print job type that applies the one or more printed images to the first surface and the second surface. The approach also involves processing the determined print job type to cause, at least in part, a determination of a release agent application instruction that corresponds with the determined print job type. The approach further involves causing, at least in part, an amount of the release agent to be applied to the substrate based on the release agent application instruction.
