Patent number: 8040582Abstract: A beam delivery system for treating target tissue that includes an input for receiving a light beam, a variable attenuator for providing variable attenuation of the light beam, a power and wavelength detection assembly, a spot size adjustment assembly, and a controller. The power and wavelength detection assembly measures the power level of the beam, and detects when unwanted wavelengths are present in the light beam. The spot size adjustment assembly selectively feeds the beam through different optical fibers to achieve different spot sizes of the beam. The controller controls the variable attenuator, the power and wavelength detection assembly, and the spot size adjustment assembly to achieve the desired power and wavelength, and beam spot size.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2008Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Topcon Medical Laser Systems, Inc.Inventors: David G. Angeley, Steven S. Christensen, Michael J. Simoneau, Phillip H. Gooding

Patent number: 6029345Abstract: A method for mounting a cooling assembly for use in a motor vehicle, with the cooling system including a radiator assembly, a charge air cooler, and a condenser. The radiator assembly is mounted to a chassis of the motor vehicle, the charge air cooler is mounted to the radiator assembly, and the condenser is mounted to the charge air cooler so as to dispose the radiator assembly, charge air cooler and condenser in series flow relationship with one another. The radiator assembly includes a frame having two generally U-shaped portions, and a radiator, or heat exchanger, disposed within and mounted to the frame. A first lateral end portion of the radiator is rigidly attached to one of the U-shaped portions of the frame. The opposite lateral end portion of the radiator is resiliently mounted to the other U-shaped portion of the frame, which is accomplished by coupling a pair of leaf springs to the radiator and the frame.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: February 29, 2000Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.Inventor: Steven S. Christensen

Patent number: 5570738Abstract: A radiator assembly for use in a motor vehicle, comprising a frame attached to a chassis of a motor vehicle and a radiator disposed within the frame. The radiator includes a core and first and second lateral end portions attached to opposite ends of the core. The first lateral end portion is rigidly mounted to the frame so as to position the radiator relative to the frame, while the second lateral end portion is resiliently mounted to the frame so as to accommodate lateral thermal growth of the radiator relative to the frame. The second lateral end portion is resiliently mounted to the frame by coupling a pair of vertically spaced spring members, each comprising a leaf spring, to the second lateral end portion and to the frame. A pair of multi-pronged mount brackets are attached to the frame, with each of the leaf springs having a first end attached to one of the brackets and a second end attached to the second lateral end portion of the radiator.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.Inventor: Steven S. Christensen

Patent number: 5566748Abstract: A cooling system sub-assembly for use in a motor vehicle comprising a charge air cooler mounted to a support structure attached to a chassis of the motor vehicle and a condenser mounted to the charge air cooler so as to accommodate at least differential thermal growth between the condenser and the charge air cooler and so as to dispose the condenser in series flow relationship with the charge air cooler. A first lateral end of the condenser is fixed relative to the charge air cooler, while a pair of generally horizontally extending pins are connected to the other lateral end of the condenser and slidingly engage compressible grommet assemblies disposed within holes formed in each of a pair of vertically spaced mount brackets attached to the charge air cooler. Alternatively, a pair of vertically spaced mount flanges may be cast as an integral unit with one of the end manifolds of the charge air cooler, with each of the flanges receiving one of the condenser pins.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.Inventor: Steven S. Christensen

Patent number: 5267624Abstract: A winter front assembly (41) for mounting to a truck having a charge air cooler (22) mounted in front of a radiator (23) and radiator fan (24). The winter front is provided as a sheet-like cover member (42) with an opening (44) having a configuration exposing at least a portion of each of the core tubes (29) in the charge air cooler (22). The opening (44) further is substantially circumferentially balanced in an annular area in front of the tips (53) of the radiator fan (24). The winter front (41) also includes an auxiliary cover member (61) formed for selective securement to the main cover member (42) to substantially reduce the area of the opening (44). The auxiliary cover (61) is configured to maintain direct air flow over at least a portion of each of the core tubes (29) and to maintain circumferentially balanced air flow to the radiator fan (24) in the annular area proximate the fan tips (53). A method of covering the front of a cooling system (21) with the winter front (41) also is provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1991Date of Patent: December 7, 1993Assignee: Paccar Inc.Inventor: Steven S. Patent number: 5097891Abstract: A charge air cooler apparatus for a truck having a front engine power takeoff mechanism. The charge air cooler has a first and a second core positioned in side-by-side spaced relation on opposite sides of the front engine power takeoff mechanism. Intake and outlet manifolds above and below the front engine power takeoff span the distance between the two cores, and turbocharged air preferably flows in parallel through the side-by-side cores. An auxiliary heat exchanger is shown mounted above the front engine power takeoff and between the cores.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1990Date of Patent: March 24, 1992Assignee: Paccar Inc.Inventor: Steven S. Christensen
