Abstract: Disclosed example material testing apparatus include: a control system comprising one or more processors; and a memory storing computer executable instructions to provide a user interface. The user interface comprises a hardware input field comprising selectable hardware fixtures; and one or more configuration input fields each indicative of a configuration parameter. The control system determines, based on a hardware input, a selected hardware fixture of the plurality of selectable hardware fixtures; controls the user interface to restrict an available input for at least one of the configuration input fields based on the selected hardware fixture; determines, based on a configuration input provided to the one or more configuration input fields, a selected configuration parameter for each of the one or more configuration input fields; and outputs a control signal to configure the material testing apparatus according to each selected configuration parameter.

Abstract: The invention encompasses rapid diagnostic testing devices for testing of a biological sample for sepsis, and for determining bacterial versus viral pathogen. The device comprises a channeled construct, at least one lateral flow unit, and a cassette housing for the detection of biomarkers indicative of sepsis. The lateral flow unit is at least partially disposed in the cassette housing. The lateral flow unit comprises: a sample receiving zone, a conjugate zone and a detection zone. The sample receiving zone is operatively coupled to the channeled construct for receiving the biological sample comprising at least one analyte (e.g., a biomarker). The conjugate zone comprising a conjugate particle to bind the analyte is disposed adjacent to the first side of the sample receiving zone. The detection zone is disposed adjacent to the second side of the sample receiving zone and comprises at least one binding agent for detecting the analyte and includes quantum dots to amplify the signal for high sensitivity.
