  • Patent number: 8970082
Abstract: A permanent magnet rotor is described. The permanent magnet rotor includes at least one permanent magnet and a rotor core including a first end and a second end. The rotor core includes at least one inner wall that defines a permanent magnet opening configured to receive the at least one permanent magnet. The rotor core further includes at least one permanent magnet retention feature extending substantially radially from the at least one inner wall and configured to maintain a position of the at least one permanent magnet with respect to the at least one permanent magnet opening.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 25, 2011
Date of Patent: March 3, 2015
    Assignee: Regal Beloit America, Inc.
    Inventors: Steven Stretz, Mark Bartz
  • Publication number: 20130057107
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a permanent magnet motor is described herein. The method includes fabricating a stator core to have a skew based on a least common multiple of a number of rotor poles and a number of stator teeth, installing windings about teeth of the skewed stator core to generate a wound stator core, and positioning a permanent magnet rotor with respect to the wound stator core.

  • Publication number: 20130057105
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an interior permanent magnet motor is described herein. The method includes providing a plurality of permanent magnets and fabricating a ferromagnetic rotor core configured to accept the permanent magnets therein such that the ferromagnetic material utilized to retain the permanent magnets within the rotor core operates to concentrate and steer the flux from one or more of the permanent magnets to a stator tooth. The method also includes positioning the rotor core with the permanent magnets therein with respect to a wound, open slot stator core.

  • Publication number: 20130057104
Abstract: A rotatable assembly that includes a plurality of permanent magnets and a rotor core is described. The rotor core includes a first end, a second end, and at least one inner wall that defines a permanent magnet opening configured to receive at least one permanent magnet of the plurality of permanent magnets. The rotor core further includes at least one bridge positioned between permanent magnet openings, wherein at least a first permanent magnet and a second permanent magnet of the plurality of permanent magnets generates a first rotor pole of a plurality of rotor poles.

  • Patent number: 7786635
Abstract: A motor that includes a motor frame, an end-bell assembly, a stator assembly, and filling material is described. The stator assembly is placed within the frame such that at least one open area is defined between an inner diameter of the stator assembly and an inner diameter of the motor frame. The at least one end-bell assembly is attached to the motor frame, forming an inside area adjacent the motor frame and the stator assembly. The motor also includes a material configured to fill the at least one open area and the inside area of the at least one end-bell assembly for the purpose of sealing the stator assembly and the inside area associated with the at least one end-bell assembly. The material assists in a bonding and attachment between any two or more of the stator assembly, the motor frame, and the at least one end-bell assembly.
