  • Patent number: 9425663
Abstract: A distributed winding arrangement for an electric motor is provided that reduces brush arcing while reducing the size of the commutator. The electric motor is comprised generally of an armature having a plurality of spaced apart posts defining a plurality of spaced apart winding slots; a stator disposed coaxially with the armature; and a commutator having a plurality of commutator bars, where the number of commutator bars is an integer greater than the number of winding slots but less than twice the number of winding slots provided by the armature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 15, 2013
Date of Patent: August 23, 2016
    Assignee: BLACK & DECKER INC.
Inventors: Wei Chen, Jin Fujun, Steven Swaddle, Timothy W. French, Jr.

  • Patent number: 5544274
Abstract: A power tool such as a hand held vacuum cleaner, has a housing and nozzle. The housing mounts a motor and switch carrier. A battery pack powers the motor. The electrical arrangements comprise conductors punched from a single strip and fixed in guides formed on the carrier. Terminals of the motor and battery are pressed through slits in some conductors. The conductors pass into tracks formed on a tray of the switch. A mask is positioned on the tray to expose the conductors in discrete switch positions of slide connectors mounted in a switch slide slidably mounted on the tray. A mask (78) is positioned on the tray to expose the conductors in discrete switch positions (A, B, C) of slide connectors (68) mounted in a switch slide (64) slidably mounted on the tray.
