Patent number: 10049090Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for manipulating a model, where that model represents some or all of a design. The design includes a multitude of design elements, the model includes a multitude of model elements, and each of the design elements is represented by a single model element. The method comprises the steps of generating a suite of documents from the model, each of the documents describing a view of the model; and displaying the documents to a user as a series of forms. The user provides information to the forms to change the documents, and changes to the documents result in both changes to the model and consistent changes across the suite of documents. In the preferred embodiment, the model identifies specific relationships between the elements of the model, and each of the model elements has defined properties.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2013Date of Patent: August 14, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Steven Abrams, Bard Bloom, Paul T. Publication number: 20140178851Abstract: Some embodiments include a process for creating educational assessments using modular or reusable widget components that enables a non-technical user to assemble a test experience and to define test scoring logic using simple WYSISYG approaches to UI design in some embodiments. In some embodiments, the process comprises an intuitive widget-driven WYSIWYG workflow process that allows the user to assemble a test experience and define test scoring logic using WYSIWYG approaches to UI design. In some embodiments, the modular and reusable widgets used in the intuitive workflow process to create educational assessments replace pre-determined templates that constrain the creative ability of the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2013Publication date: June 26, 2014Inventors: STEVEN TANG, VAMSIDHAR MUKKAMALA

Patent number: 8706704Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for creating a hyperlink together with an associated semantic link between a source entity, and a target entity. The source entity includes descriptive text. The system includes means for selecting text within the source entity, and means for selecting the target entity. Also, means are provided for selecting a type of semantic link, and means are provided for creating a hyperlink between said selected text and said target entity. The system further includes means for creating a semantic link of said type between said source entity and said target entity, including means for including in the hyperlink a reference to said semantic link. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the means for selecting the type of semantic link includes means for prompting a user to select from among a plurality of candidate types of semantic links.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2007Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Steven R. Patent number: 6186070Abstract: A combined effect warhead device for forming at least one aerostable rod fragment and a plurality of small fragments by explosive formation. The warhead is centered about an axis and contains explosives and liners. A first liner forms an aerostable rod and a second liner forms a plurality of fragments, whereby upon detonation of the warhead, combined explosively formed projectiles are produced including the aerostable rod and the plurality of fragments. In a preferred embodiment, the first liner is unscored and curved, whereas the second liner is scored to facilitate formation of the plurality of fragments. The second liner is almost flat and includes raised portions on its surface to facilitate formation of the plurality of fragments. It is also preferred to include an interface material between the first and the second liner, preferably where the interface material is a combination of explosive material and plastic.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1998Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Richard Fong, Steven Tang
