  • Publication number: 20070122255
Abstract: A staple hole forming apparatus including a pair of pins and a pin receptor. The pair of pins are spaced from each other a distance substantially equal to a distance between two legs of a staple. The pin receptor is positioned opposite the pair of pins relative to a sheet path through the staple hole forming apparatus. The pin receptor is positioned to mate with at least one of the pair of pins. One of the pair of pins and the pin receptor is configured to move towards and mate with the other of the pair of pins and the pin receptor causing the pair of pins to penetrate a sheet extending between the pair of pins and the pin receptor to form two holes in the sheet. Each of the two holes is configured to receive one of the two legs of the staple.

  • Publication number: 20070116542
Abstract: A method of trimming a plurality of sheets bound together, in which each of the plurality of sheets defines a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge that collectively define a fore edge of the closed bound document, comprising selecting a first portion of the plurality of sheets, folding the first portion of the plurality of sheets at a first fold angle and in a first fold direction, and trimming the folded first portion of the plurality of sheets near the first portion edges included in the first portion to partially achieve the desired edge effect for the bound document. The first portion of the plurality of sheets is greater than one sheet of the plurality of sheets. The first fold angle and the first fold direction are configured to achieve a desired fore edge effect.

  • Publication number: 20060022393
Abstract: A sheet collecting apparatus includes a fold blade having a fold axis in a first direction, a collecting device for supporting folded sheets of material in a stack arranged for stapling, and a translation device. The collecting device is mounted to the translation device for translation in a first direction from a first position to a second position. In the first position, a sheet-collecting portion of the sheet-supporting edge subtends the fold blade and in the second position the sheet-collecting portion of the sheet-supporting edge is clear of the fold blade. Optionally, the fold blade is cantilevered to position the fold blade above a sheet-collecting portion of the sheet-supporting edge. An exemplary method to accumulate sheets on a collecting device on a sheet-wise basis includes translating the collecting device in a translating direction from the first position to the second position to remove the folded sheet from the fold blade and to transfer the folded sheet to the collecting device.

  • Publication number: 20050219365
Abstract: Imaging device analysis systems and imaging device analysis methods are described. According to one embodiment, an imaging device analysis system includes a light source configured to generate a plurality of light beams for analysis of an imaging device, wherein the light beams comprise light of a plurality of different spectral power distributions, processing circuitry coupled with the light source and configured to control the light source to generate the light beams, and an optical interface optically coupled with a light receiving member of the imaging device and configured to communicate the plurality of light beams to the light receiving member of the imaging device.

  • Publication number: 20050127596
Abstract: Method and apparatus for assembling sheets of printing media for booklets. In one aspect the sheets are folded, sheet-by-sheet, and in another aspect the sheets are collected, sheet-by-sheet, and registered on a fold in each sheet. In still another aspect printed sheets are loaded, sheet-by-sheet, into the apparatus. Each sheet is trimmed to a pre-determined width depending on the position of the sheet in the booklet being assembled. The sheets are thereafter folded, sheet-by-sheet, and collected into a stack. The method and apparatus have particular application in finishing duplex printed sheets of paper into saddle-stitched booklets.

  • Publication number: 20050079968
Abstract: A sheet folding and trimming apparatus for a booklet maker or bookbinder includes a folding apparatus and a sheetwise trimming apparatus configured to trim the folded sheet from the folding apparatus on three unfolded sides of the sheet in a sheetwise manner. The location of the sheet folder prior to the sheet trimmer allows the use of a relatively imprecise and inexpensive folding apparatus, such as a buckle folder, and adjusts for the imprecision of the fold by trimming the folded sheet.

  • Publication number: 20050077671
Abstract: A sheet folding and accumulation system and method inverts folded sheets onto a saddle where the sheets are accumulated and bound into a booklet. The inverting of the sheets onto the saddle for accumulation and binding eliminates the need for the saddle or other sheet collection member to translate or pivot for location of the sheets onto the saddle. A sheet folding and accumulation system includes a folding mechanism configured to form a fold in a sheet, a saddle for collecting folded sheets into a booklet for binding, and an inverting mechanism for inverting the folded sheet and placing the folded sheet onto the saddle with the peak of the fold in the sheet pointing upward.

  • Publication number: 20050011322
Abstract: A sheet material trimming apparatus and method are described which are suitable for use in a booklet making system. An exemplary apparatus includes at least one cutter for trimming a first and a second edge of a sheet material in a first and a second direction, and a drive system for moving the sheet material in two perpendicular directions for trimming the first and second edges with the at least one cutter. The drive system moves the sheet material in two perpendicular directions by rotating and translating a roller. The sheet material trimming apparatus allows for automatic changes in the amount of material cut off each side of the sheet material by moving the sheet material in two directions without requiring repositioning of the cutter(s).
