  • Patent number: 9199280
Abstract: A sorting system and method for separating solid waste including heavy fraction, mid fraction and light fraction materials. A first conveyor belt system for moves the solid waste from a first end to a second end so that the solid waste cascades over the second end whereby the heavy fraction material falls downward to a first collection area and the mid fraction and light fraction material are conveyed by a first planar sheet of air to a second conveyor belt system.

A first conveyor belt system cascades solid waste over an end of the belt system whereby the heavy fraction material falls downward to a first collection area and the mid fraction and light fraction material are conveyed by a first planar sheet of air to a second conveyor belt system. A second conveyor belt system cascades the mid fraction and light fraction material over an end of the second conveyor belt system whereby a Tollable mid fraction of the solid waste can tumble backwards to drop into a second collection area and whereby the mid fraction pieces of solid waste fall downward to a third collection area and light fraction solid waste is carried away by a second planar sheet of air.

  • Publication number: 20050205474
Abstract: An air separator system for separating shredded trash into relatively light material and relatively heavy material. An air stream is provided at an end of a conveyor. A splitter plate system comprises a rotating cylinder supported by a frame, and a splitter curtain hanging below the cylinder. The amount of light material which make it over the cylinder into a collection area can be controlled by adjusting at least one of a speed of the conveyor, an angle of the conveyor with resepect to horizontal, an angle of the airstream with respect to the angle of the conveyor, a pressure of the airstream, a position of the airstream relative to the end of the conveyor, a distance between the bar and the conveyor, and a height of the bar with respect to a height of the conveyor.
