Publication number: 20170072838Abstract: A mounting system for an interior light bar is provided having a pair of brackets pivotally mounted at opposite ends of a housing of a light bar so that the brackets and housing rotate with respect to each other. The brackets each have a front platform with adhesive material for attaching the brackets against a glass surface within a vehicle. With the brackets stationary against a glass surface, the light bar housing is pivoted to horizontally level the light bar despite any curvature or slope of the glass surface. Each of brackets has a pawl member having protrusions which when rotated engage different sets detents along a curved ratchet surface along the back of the housing to releasibly lock the housing and brackets with respect to each other along one of multiple pivot positions.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2016Publication date: March 16, 2017Inventor: STEVEN W. NEUFEGLISE

Patent number: 9592768Abstract: A universal mounting for a light bar which is adjustable in a vertical direction as well as pivotable and tiltable along pitch and roll axes, respectively, longitudinal and lateral of the vehicle to enable leveling of the light bar on the roof while attaching the light bar to the vehicle. There are two mountings which are attached to the light bar under opposite ends thereof. Each mounting has a fixed bracket attached to the roof and an adjustable bracket clamped to the fixed bracket with a mounting bolt threadedly engaged in a pivot connection in the adjustable bracket to enable adjustment about the pivot axis. The pivot connection may also be movable vertically (up or down) with respect to the roof. Vertical and pivotal adjustability facilitates alignment of the bolt in a threaded fastener in the pivot connection. The adjustable bracket has upper and lower parts. The upper part is connected to the light bar and is tiltable with respect to the lower part about the roll axis.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2009Date of Patent: March 14, 2017Assignee: STAR HEADLIGHT & LANTERN CO., INC.Inventor: Steven W. Patent number: 8669852Abstract: A reflex speaker which provides an acoustic signal generator for acoustic alarm signals is captured in a housing through which the acoustic signals project via ports at the exit end of the housing. The housing defines a compartment at the exit end with an opening which is covered so that the acoustic signals project out of the exit end around the compartment. The cover may be a transparent cover which provides a lens through which optical signals generated by optics in the compartment provided by either LEDs to provide an optical warning signal, or a video camera, such as a CCD, which responds to visual signals as from hazards at the rear of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Star Headlight & Lantern Co., Inc.Inventors: Steven W. Patent number: 8210725Abstract: A light bar has several modular light source heads which may contain different types of light sources as well as different technologies mounted in cages by shock absorbing grommets. The cages are mounted on a bottom member so that the heads can be arranged along opposite sides and the ends of the bottom members. The heads are captured, and assembled with the bottom member, by a top member which also captures translucent or transparent members or lenses along the sides of the light bar and, transparent or translucent end caps which may also provide lenses for the light source heads at the ends of the bar. The end caps are removably connected to the top and bottom members at the ends of the bar by screws extending through the end caps. The light source modules have the same wiring connected thereto by connectors from a connector board to connectors along the back ends of the light source heads.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2009Date of Patent: July 3, 2012Assignee: Start Headlight & Lantern Co., Inc.Inventors: R. Patent number: 8192063Abstract: An interior light bar adapted to be installed on the rear deck of a vehicle for projecting light out of the rear window. The light bar has a pair of projection units each having a housing and each slidably mounted on a rail which extends through the housings from an end thereof and along a rear, closed side. The units each contain light emitters which project the light out of the open side of the units. The units are assembled with a selected separation distance so that the ends through which the rail extends are essentially in contact or sufficiently spread apart to clear a brake light assembly on the rear deck or even further apart so as to provide a wide width of illumination out of the rear window from the light bar. The rail may be channel which provides a conduit for wiring from the light emitter units. Fasteners which connect the housings and the rail into an integrated assembly extend through the closed side of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Star Headlight & Lantern Co., Inc.Inventor: Steven W. Patent number: 7106185Abstract: A full function light bar is provided mountable inside a vehicle against the windshield. The light bar is an assembly of several light sources, including strobe lamps, flashing lamps, oscillating lamps, and an aimable take down lamp. The light bar is not limited in application to one specific vehicular model and is adaptable and adjustable to conform to the windshield, rear window, or other interior cab surfaces of varying shape (curvature). The light sources are supported on a flexible support mount which has adjustable, flexible gaskets. End caps and the gaskets screen the inside of the vehicle from the light emitted by the light bar. The support mount is hung on adjustable brackets which allow the light bar to be raised, lowered and tilted to further facilitate conformance with the windshield.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2003Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Star Headlight and Lantern Co., Inc.Inventor: Steven W. Patent number: 7036965Abstract: A light bar contains one or more rows of light-emitting diodes (LED's) in a housing which extends across substantially the entire width of a windshield of a vehicle and is narrow in width to minimize interference with visibility through the windshield. The LED's are arranged in banks generally symmetrically arrayed about the center of the length of the housing. Two of the banks, preferably equidistant from the center, are tilted in opposite directions to each other so as to project light toward the right side and left side of the vehicle. A mechanism is provided for displacing and tilting the housing and may use pivotal arms attached to the end of the housing or adjustable Z-shaped hangers attached preferably to clamps such as visor clips already on the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2003Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Star Headlight and Lantern Co., Inc.Inventors: William H.
