  • Patent number: 11447914
Abstract: Removal of stickies from waste paper and paperboard is obtained with the use of a modified kaolin-based stickies removal composition. The modified kaolin-based stickies removal composition is produced by modifying the kaolin clay, separating the modified kaolin clay from the non-reactive kaolin clay, and then adding a nonionic surfactant to the modified kaolin-based particles. Removal of stickies is improved by the use of this modified kaolin-based stickies removal composition during the recycling of the waste paper and paperboard.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 7, 2017
Date of Patent: September 20, 2022
Inventors: Cesar I. Basilio, Steven W. Sheppard

  • Patent number: 8815051
Abstract: Deinking of waste paper is obtained with the use of a hydrophobic kaolin-based deinking composition. The hydrophobic kaolin-based deinking composition is produced by hydrophobizing the kaolin clay and then blending the hydrophobic kaolin-based particles with a deinking surfactant. Separation and removal of ink is achieved either by washing deinking, flotation deinking or combination of these methods.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 18, 2011
Date of Patent: August 26, 2014
    Assignee: Thiele Kaolin Company
Inventors: Cesar I. Basilio, Steven W. Sheppard
