Publication number: 20080085177Abstract: A bottom block assembly for an overhead crane includes a main bottom block, an outer frame carried by the main bottom block and rotatable relative to the main bottom block about a vertical axis of rotation, and a pair of paddles carried by the outer frame and downwardly extending from the outer frame on opposed sides of the main bottom block. Upper ends of the paddles are pivotably secured to the outer frame about horizontal axes so that lower ends of the paddles pivot toward and away from each other. The paddles are pivotable between a closed position wherein each of the paddles is substantially vertical and an open position wherein the lower end of each of the paddles is outwardly pivoted away from a vertical central axis. Each of the paddles has a keyhole-shaped closed-section opening near its lower end.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2007Publication date: April 10, 2008Inventor: Steven Waisanen

Publication number: 20080023682Abstract: A crane having an upper block, a lower block, a drum, and two ropes. The upper block includes an equalizer having a yoke to which the ropes are connected. The connections between the ropes and the yoke include load cells that measure the forces carried by each of the ropes. The upper block includes a fail-safe system that prevents failure of the upper block in overload conditions.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2007Publication date: January 31, 2008Inventor: Steven Waisanen

Publication number: 20070125258Abstract: A crane return system is used for returning a crane component to a home position when there is a loss of power. A crane includes a bridge with a plurality of main wheels adapted to travel along at least one rail. The crane return system includes a plurality of auxiliary drive wheels supported by the bridge, the auxiliary drive wheels movable between a first position, in which the auxiliary drive wheels are recessed from the rail, and a second position, in which the auxiliary drive wheels are in contact with the rail. When power is supplied to the crane return system the auxiliary drive wheels are in the first position. A hydraulic fluid pressure vessel stores hydraulic fluid, wherein a substantially fixed mass of hydraulic fluid is contained within the crane return system, and a hydraulic cylinder is interconnected with the auxiliary drive wheels and selectively fluidly communicates with the hydraulic fluid pressure vessel.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2005Publication date: June 7, 2007Inventor: Steven Waisanen

Publication number: 20060283825Abstract: A portable jib for movably mounting to a crane girder includes a base frame configured for traveling along a girder and a support member coupled to the base frame, wherein the support member extends substantially upward from the base frame. A boom is coupled to a free end of the support member and the boom extends substantially radially outward from the support member. The base frame, the support member and the boom are assembled and mounted to the girder for use and disassembled and removed from the girder after use.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2006Publication date: December 21, 2006Applicant: MHE Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Steven Waisanen

Publication number: 20060243881Abstract: A control system is used for remotely operating an apparatus powered by a main power source. The control system includes an auxiliary power source to provide power to the apparatus upon a loss of power to the main power source, and first and second light-emitting sources positioned remote of the apparatus. A first photoelectric sensor is positioned proximate the apparatus and interconnected with the apparatus and the auxiliary power source, wherein upon a loss of power to the main power source, the first photoelectric sensor receives light from the first light-emitting source and the first photoelectric sensor enables power to flow from the auxiliary power source to the apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2005Publication date: November 2, 2006Applicant: MHE Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Steven Waisanen

Publication number: 20060151764Abstract: A pin removal assembly for use with an upper block of a crane includes a sheave support and a pin support. The upper block includes a frame, a plurality of sheaves, and a removable sheave pin that defines an axis of rotation for the sheaves and supports the sheaves within the frame. The pin removal assembly includes a sheave support mountable to the frame of the upper block and a pin support mountable to the frame of the upper block. The pin support is configured to support the sheave pin when the sheave pin is removed from the upper block.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2005Publication date: July 13, 2006Applicant: MHE Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Steven Waisanen

Publication number: 20050111012Abstract: A remotely operated laser survey device for performing a runway survey on a rail system that supports a device such as an overhead crane. The survey device includes a laser assembly and a survey car. The laser assembly can include a self-leveling laser. The survey car includes an image acquisition device and can be self-propelled by a drive mechanism. Images obtained using the image acquisition device are transmitted to a remote computer for analysis. The analysis can include a centroidal analysis of the image. Deviation of the rails is compared to established standards and correction carried out if necessary. The image acquisition device can be triggered to obtain images based on movement of the survey car. The survey car can be centered on a rail of the rail system to ensure accurate results regardless of the condition of the rail.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 25, 2003Publication date: May 26, 2005Applicant: MHE Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Steven Waisanen
