A fluid-flow device 14 can be oriented to cause fluid to flow across the x-ray source 13 then inside of and along the longitudinal axis 12, the fluid being ionized by the x-rays 16, forming ionized fluid, then out of the elongated enclosure through outlet opening(s) 15. The arrangement of the x-ray source 13 and the fluid-flow device 14 can allow (1) fluid from the fluid-flow device 14 to cool the x-ray source 13, and (2) ion generation along the length of the elongated enclosure 11.

The signal indicative of the exerted force can be used by the robot controller to determine the weight of the parts that may be held by the picking tool(s). The method comprises detecting if a spare partition unit is required for addition or replacement in a local operating system and if a spare partition unit is required for addition, initiating an addition of a spare partition unit. If a spare partition unit is required for replacement, a replacement of a failing partition unit with a spare partition unit is initiated; part of the memory of the failing partition unit is passively migrated into the memory of the spare partition unit's partition; part of the memory of the failing partition unit is also actively migrated into the memory of the spare partition unit's partition; and the partitionable computing device is cleaned up. Partition units are replaced without requiring that computer-executable instructions be recompiled.
