  • Publication number: 20080070966
Abstract: Anti-microbial compositions comprising certain imidazolium ionic liquids and non-ionic or anionic surfactants and methods of using said compositions in the preservation of personal care and cosmetic applications are provided.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 8, 2007
    Publication date: March 20, 2008
Inventors: Stewart Elder, Andrea Preuss, Kai-Uwe Schoning, Karin Muhlbauer
  • Publication number: 20070264293
Abstract: Microcapsules of a fluorescent whitening agent in a transparent or translucent polymer formed from a mixture of hydrophobic and ionic monomers that are capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C., wherein the fluorescent whitening agent is not bonded to the surface of a particulate substrate, provide attractive aesthetic effects when incorporated into personal care or cosmetic compositions.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 31, 2005
    Publication date: November 15, 2007
    Inventors: Stewart Elder, Christina Andrianov
  • Publication number: 20070255008
Abstract: Polymeric particles comprising a polymeric matrix that has been formed from a blend of monomers comprising a first monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated ionic monomer and a second monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C., wherein secondary particles are distributed throughout the matrix, in which the secondary particles comprise a hydrophobic polymer that has been formed from an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C. and optionally other monomers, which hydrophobic polymer is different from the polymeric matrix. Also claimed is a process for preparing particles. The particles have improved shatter resistance. Preferably the polymeric particles comprise an active ingredient, especially a colourant.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 2, 2005
    Publication date: November 1, 2007

  • Publication number: 20070128151
Abstract: Carboxylic acid ester derivatives of zosteric acid are effective in preventing biofouling and are readily formulated into coatings or films. Coating or film compositions of the esters, and methods for their application, are provided which reduce the dissolution of the esters into water or loss to the environment. The Zosteric acid esters of the invention appear to function by preventing adhesion of an organism to a surface rather than by acute toxic activity rendering said compositions more environmentally acceptable.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 21, 2006
    Publication date: June 7, 2007
Inventors: Stewart Elder, Fadi Khawam, Andrea Preuss, Jurgen Wiethan
  • Publication number: 20060078518
Abstract: Cosmetic or personal care compositions which comprise at least one fluorescent colorant other than white and at least one non-fluorescent colorant, are useful in preparing colored cosmetic or personal care preparations providing an enhanced skin appearance.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 17, 2005
    Publication date: April 13, 2006
Inventors: Stewart Elder, Colin Morton, Christina Andrianov
  • Publication number: 20060024340
Abstract: Microparticles containing an effective amount of at least one fluorescent whitening agent, wherein said fluorescent whitening agent is entrapped in a transparent or translucent matrix polymer that has been formed from a blend of monomers comprising a first monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated ionic monomer and a second monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C., wherein secondary particles are distributed throughout the matrix, which secondary particles comprise a hydrophobic polymer that has been formed from an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer having a glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C. and optionally other monomers, which hydrophobic polymer is different from that of the matrix polymer, exhibit improved shatter resistance.
