Patent number: 9261314Abstract: The embodiments described herein relate to a sleeve piston for operating the bolt carrier of an auto-loading firearm. The sleeve piston can comprise a monolithic sleeve piston or it can comprise two or more sleeve-piston parts, thereby evenly distributing the reciprocating mass of an auto-loading firearm about its barrel and minimizing muzzle rise when fired. The sleeve piston can be coupled to the bolt carrier by two or more operating rods, thereby reducing the tipping force experienced by the bolt carrier during firearm operation. The sleeve piston can reciprocate in or on a gas block coupled to the barrel, and the sleeve piston can be removed by sliding it forward and off the end of the barrel. The embodiments of the present invention can thus provide a balanced and compact operating mechanism that is ideally suited for rifles, carbines, and personal-defense weapons.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2014Date of Patent: February 16, 2016Inventor: Jason Stewart Jackson

Patent number: 8984717Abstract: A self-returning hinge assembly utilizing a spring disposed along a linearly displaceable guide shaft element mounted through a polymeric guide plate disposed in substantial alignment with an aperture supporting an elongated proximal portion of the guide shaft. Upon displacement of the door from a pre-established set point, the spring is compressed thereby generating a biasing force along the guide shaft to bring the door back to the pre-established set point. The linear travel path of the guide shaft element is maintained by the guide plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2014Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: Bommer Industries, Inc.Inventor: B. Patent number: 8640598Abstract: The embodiments described herein relate generally to a sleeve piston for operating the bolt carrier of a firearm. The sleeve piston can comprise a monolithic sleeve piston or it can comprise two or more sleeve-piston parts, thereby evenly distributing the reciprocating mass of an auto-loading firearm about its barrel, minimizing muzzle rise. The sleeve piston can further be coupled to the bolt carrier by two or more operating rods, thereby reducing the tipping force or off-axis torque experienced by the bolt carrier during firearm operation. The sleeve piston can also reciprocate in a sleeve gas block coupled to a barrel, thereby helping to transfer heat away from the barrel. The sleeve piston embodiments of the present invention provide a balanced and compact operating mechanism that is ideally suited for rifles, carbines, and personal-defense weapons.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2011Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Inventor: Jason Stewart Jackson

Patent number: 8397641Abstract: A projectile is provided comprising a body with a channel that contains a non-Newtonian fluid. In various embodiments a plunger is located in the channel, wherein the plunger transmits a force to the non-Newtonian fluid upon interacting with a target, causing the non-Newtonian fluid to exert a pressure in the channel, and wherein the viscosity of the non-Newtonian fluid changes upon interacting with the target. By way of non-limiting example, the non-Newtonian fluid of embodiments of the present invention can comprise a shear-thickening fluid that increases its viscosity with at least the rate of shear upon interacting with the target.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2011Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Inventor: Jason Stewart Jackson

Patent number: 8176837Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention generally provide or relate to an operating rod for use in an auto-loading firearm. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention provide an operating rod for selectively actuating a bolt carrier by gas-impingement or mechanical operation. The operating rod can comprise an operating rod gas duct coupled to an operating rod gas tube, wherein gases from a fired cartridge are directed into the gas duct and flow through the gas tube to actuate a bolt carrier by gas-impingement. Alternatively, gases from a fired cartridge can be directed against a forward-end of the operating rod, thereby causing the operating rod to mechanically operate the bolt carrier.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2010Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Inventor: Jason Stewart Jackson

Patent number: 7647902Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a poppet valve offering an increased valve area, comprising an outer valve head having an outer valve port and an inner valve head having an inner valve port. The inner valve head is rotatable relative to the outer valve head to align the inner and outer valve ports, thereby increasing the effective valve area of the poppet valve. The path created by aligning the inner and outer valve ports can be designed to mix air flowing through the poppet valve. Another embodiment of the present invention provides a valve guide containing a poppet valve having a guide pin, wherein the guide pin rests within a groove in the valve guide. As the poppet valve moves through the valve guide, the groove controls movement of the guide pin and causes the poppet valve to rotate relative to the valve guide.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2008Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Inventor: Jason Stewart Jackson
