  • Patent number: 4004979
Abstract: Articles containing active proteins, such as enzymes, crosslinked to an inactive protein are prepared by dispersing and reacting in a solvent an active protein and an inactive protein simultaneously with a crosslinking agent to crosslink the active and inactive proteins together. The degree of crosslinking can be controlled by introducing tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane in an amount sufficient to stop chain growth. Optionally, an inert carrier may be present during crosslinking. The resultant crosslinked active and inactive proteins can be in various forms such as solutions, suspensions, gels, films, membranes, granules, pills or tablets.
