  • Patent number: 8000675
Abstract: A wireless communication terminal includes a broadcast signal frequency converter that is communicatively coupled to the terminal's communication signal receiver and is configured to use its communication receiver to process received broadcast signals. In an exemplary embodiment, the converter includes a frequency shifting circuit, e.g., a block frequency converter, that shifts broadcast signal bands into communication signal bands, such that received broadcast signals are shifted into a frequency range compatible with the communication receiver's signal path. Moreover, the significant digital domain signal processing capability of the communication receiver can be used to receive broadcast television and/or radio signals, provide signal enhancements, and extract other types of information such as RDBS, IBOC, etc.

  • Patent number: 7907585
Abstract: An improved network interface device includes at least two wireless network transceivers where the transceivers share at least one antenna. In one embodiment, one of the transceivers is a 2×2 MIMO WiFi N transceiver and the other of the transceivers is a 2×1 MIMO WiMAX transceiver. A priority selector and lockout control circuit is used to control which transceiver has access to the shared antenna. The control circuit of one embodiment is arranged so the WiMAX transceiver is given priority access to the shared antenna.

  • Patent number: 7327802
Abstract: An apparatus comprises a transmitter, a receiver, an antenna and a signal cancellation circuit. The transmitter is configured to send a transmitter signal associated with a frequency. The receiver is associated with the frequency. The antenna is coupled to the transmitter and the receiver. The signal cancellation circuit is coupled to the transmitter, the receiver and the antenna. The signal cancellation circuit is configured to phase shift a first portion of the transmitter signal to produce a phase-shifted signal. The signal cancellation circuit is configured to combine the phase-shifted signal with a second portion of the transmitter signal to produce a combined signal. The second portion of the transmitter signal is associated with a reflection of a third portion of the transmitter signal from the antenna. The first portion, the second portion and the third portion of the transmitter signal are different from each other.

  • Patent number: 6920324
Abstract: Methods, receivers, transmitters, and systems are provided for performing a soft hand-over of a mobile terminal between base station transceivers that communicate using different communication channels. A mobile terminal may be configured to receive and demodulate signals on a plurality of different communication channels concurrently and to modulate and transmit signals on a plurality of different communication channels concurrently. This allows, for example, multiple communication connections to be concurrently established between the mobile terminal and a plurality of different base station transceivers that use the different communication channels to communicate.

  • Patent number: 5777527
Abstract: A differential signal is coupled to an unbalanced port (116) from a balanced port (110) by receiving a first portion of a first phase of a differential signal at a first resonator (104) and receiving a second phase of the differential signal at a second resonator (108). The first portion of the first phase of the differential signal is coupled to a first matching element (112) and the second phase of the differential signal is coupled to a second matching element (118). The first portion of the first phase of the differential signal is coupled to a phasing element (122) through the first matching element (112) and a second portion of the first phase of the differential signal, which is a 180 degree out of representation of the second phase of the differential signal, is coupled to the phasing element (122) through the second matching element (118).

  • Patent number: 5327106
Abstract: An apparatus suitable for use as a local oscillator is disclosed, which includes (a) a tank circuit operatively associated with an FET to generate a fundamental frequency oscillating signal at an output of the FET and (b) a bi-directional clamp circuit coupled at a junction between the tank circuit and a gate of the FET to limit a swing of the gate of the FET, preventing the gate of the FET from entering either a saturation region or a cut-off region. The bi-directional clamp includes a first diode coupled to allow positive current to flow to the junction and a second diode coupled to allow positive current to flow away from the junction. The oscillator produces an output with a reduced level of radiation-prone harmonics.
