  • Patent number: 8671065
Abstract: A method of monitoring an evolving system, the method including the steps of: obtaining a plurality of sensor data streams relating to outputs from sensors monitoring said system, wherein at least one of said sensors monitors a condition of said system, and wherein at least one of said sensors monitors a causal agent for said condition; iteratively constructing a plurality of functional nests, each functional nest being a functional formed from a combination of selected functionals from a basic set of functionals; determining an output data stream for each functional nest by inputting said sensor data streams into said functional nests; selecting a functional nest from said plurality of functional nests based on said output data streams; and using said selected functional nest to monitor said system.

  • Publication number: 20140053332
Abstract: A nozzle assembly for a tap, or faucet, including a first nozzle and a second nozzle arranged side by side. The second nozzle has a flared discharge end which flares outwardly in front of the discharge end of the first nozzle so that the two discharge ends overlap. The nozzle assembly may be incorporated as a self-contained nozzle unit for fitting to a faucet. The nozzle assembly is particularly suitable for faucets designed to dispense water and foam soap separately over the basin of a sink.

  • Patent number: 8056775
Abstract: An appliance has a casing and a dispenser. The dispenser includes a dispensing member for dispensing a fluid and is movable between a first position in which at least a part of the dispensing member is located within the casing and a second position in which the dispensing member projects from the casing. The dispensing member is slideable between the first and second positions along a linear path. By providing such an arrangement, the dispenser is able to move along the shortest path between the first and second positions, reducing the space necessary in the appliance to allow the dispenser to move and allowing the drive mechanisms to be correspondingly smaller.

  • Publication number: 20100088844
Abstract: An apparatus for removing particulates from a cylindrical air filter includes: a rotating device for rotating the air filter about a longitudinal axis; and a cleaning device including a nozzle adapted to blow a gas through the air filter to remove particulates from the air filter, wherein the rotating device and the cleaning device are mounted for relative movement whereby the nozzle traverses longitudinally through the rotating air filter, and wherein the air filter is both mounted to the apparatus and cleaned in a substantially horizontal orientation.

  • Publication number: 20080089793
Abstract: A system for evacuating an enclosure is provided. The system comprises first pumping means having an inlet selectively connectable to an outlet from the enclosure. Second pumping means are also provided together with conduit means for connecting an exhaust of the first pumping means to an inlet of the second pumping means. An auxiliary chamber is provided, this chamber being selectively connectable to the conduit means such that, in a first state, gas can be drawn from the auxiliary chamber by the second pumping means in isolation from the enclosure, and, in a second state, gas can be drawn from the enclosure to the auxiliary chamber through the first pumping means.

  • Patent number: 7019632
Abstract: A vehicle's operator can signal both the intended relative braking effort, and changes thereto, using a signal with a proportionately scaled and reactive display. A sensor measuring the current proportionate intensity of the intended and applied braking effort is attached to a vehicle's braking system. This sensor sends a signal to the associated external display (which may comprise multiple, separated areas). Each display area then shows that portion of its area commensurate with, or proportional to, the intensity of the intended and applied braking effort. The sensor, signal, and display(s) regularly repeat this at rapid intervals, thereby keeping the display responsive to and in accordance with the current intended and applied braking effort. In one enhancement, the outer limit of the display is activated when any braking effort is made, to enable rapid evaluation by any viewer between the relative effort applied and the potential full effort.
