Patent number: 12630797Abstract: One aspect of this disclosure is a method for maintaining a plankton population in a culture medium by removing particles from the culture medium. The method may comprise rotating a filter body to lift the particles from the culture medium with a filter of the filter body, positioning the filter relative to a conduit so that a first portion of the lifted particles fall into the conduit, directing a removal fluid toward the filter body to move a second portion of the lifted particles off the filter and into the conduit with impact forces applied by the removal fluid, and/or outputting an effluent flow from the conduit. The effluent flow may comprise the first and second portions of the lifted particles and a portion of the removal fluid. Aspects of related apparatus, methods, and systems also are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2021Date of Patent: May 19, 2026Assignee: INDUSTRIAL PLANKTON INC.Inventors: Robert Roulston, Stuart De Haas, Wilson Hay

Publication number: 20250001425Abstract: A microfluidic chip and holder assembly includes a base having a seat and at least a first fluid channel that extends through the base. The first fluid channel has an inlet that is spaced from the seat for connection to a fluid supply and an outlet that is in the seat. A microfluidic chip is received by the seat, and the microfluidic chip has a fluid pathway. A cover is mounted over the microfluidic chip to sandwich the microfluidic chip between the cover and the base. The cover bears against the microfluidic chip to force the microfluidic chip to bear against the base and form a sealed connection between the outlet of the fluid channel and the fluid pathway of the microfluidic chip.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2024Publication date: January 2, 2025Applicant: INTERFACE FLUIDICS LTD.Inventors: THOMAS DE HAAS, STUART DE HAAS, EMMA SEREDIAK

Publication number: 20250002829Abstract: Aspects of seaweed bioreactor apparatus, methods, and systems are described. One aspect is a method comprising: scaling a seaweed biomass and a culture medium in a light-transmitting vessel located in a light-controlling enclosure; and sampling or harvesting the seaweed biomass without unsealing the light-transmitting vessel by: causing, with a controller, a light source to output an artificial light into the light-controlling enclosure that illuminates the seaweed biomass; outputting, with a sensor in communication with the controller, sensory data associated with the culture medium; modifying, with the controller, at least one of the artificial light or the culture medium responsive to the sensory data; intermittently mixing and cutting, with the controller, the seaweed biomass in the light-transmitting vessel; and removing a portion of the seaweed biomass from the light-transmitting vessel and the light-controlling enclosure. Related seaweed bioreactor apparatus, methods, and systems also are described.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2022Publication date: January 2, 2025Applicant: Industrial Plankton Inc.Inventors: Robert Roulston, Stuart de Haas, Shawn Glover, William Leite, Cameron Gregory, Jennifer Long

Patent number: 12162017Abstract: A holder for a microfluidic chip includes a base having an outward facing surface, a seat defined in the outward facing surface for receiving a microfluidic chip, and a first circular wall extending around the seat and having a first screw thread. A cover is mountable to the base over the seat for retaining the microfluidic chip on the seat. The cover has a window and a second circular wall extending around the window. The second circular wall has a second screw thread. The second screw thread is engageable with the first screw thread to screw the cover to the base with the window overlying the seat.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2019Date of Patent: December 10, 2024Assignee: INTERFACE FLUIDICS LTD.Inventors: Thomas De Haas, Stuart De Haas, Emma Serediak
