  • Patent number: 8275773
Abstract: A method of locating relevant documents wherein documents are given a fingerprint comprising weights associated with particular topic categories of a classification system, each weight representing a degree to which the document relates to the particular topic category. Documents whose fingerprints have a predetermined degree of mathematical overlap with the fingerprint may be considered relevant. A user is alerted to new relevant documents. Advertisers can offer advertisements near search results that achieve a predefined amount of relevance to text submitted by the advertiser rather than bidding on keywords. Unwanted content may be blocked from the search and filters to further refine the search may be used. E-mail spam may be blocked using textual relevance rather than keywords. Visual cues linked to a hierarchy of relevance help display the relevant documents. The methods may be used in combination with keyword searching.

Documents whose fingerprints have a predetermined degree of mathematical overlap with the fingerprint may be considered relevant. Fingerprints of texts may be combined to define user fingerprints and user fingerprints may be combined to define community user fingerprints, which can be monitored. Changes in the interest of the online community may be monitored and automatically reported to advertisers who can then instantly adjust their advertising campaign. Similarly, changes in community interest may be reported to pharmaceutical companies monitoring drug side effects. The methods may be used in combination with keyword searching.

  • Patent number: 8019754
Abstract: A method of locating relevant documents wherein documents are given a fingerprint comprising weights associated with particular topic categories of a classification system, each weight representing a degree to which the document relates to the particular topic category, a first piece of text is identified and given a fingerprint comprising a list of other weights associated with similar topic categories, the other weights representing a degree to which the first piece of text relates to the particular topic category. All or a portion of the universe of documents is searched by comparing the fingerprint for the first piece of text with the fingerprint for each document. You select those documents whose fingerprints have a predetermined degree of mathematical overlap with the fingerprint of the first piece of text. A user fingerprint of the user's recently accessed texts can be used in place of the first piece of text.

  • Patent number: 5613109
Abstract: A data reproduction apparatus comprising: a storage unit for storing element data, and the management data including index data dividing the element data into first and second data groups and channel data indicating a first-data-group reproduction order; a management data readout and save unit for reading out and saving the management data; a first-data-group-readout first direction unit for outputting a first readout direction for the first-data-group element data as per the channel data; an input manipulation unit for accepting instruction input to select a reproduction channel of the first-data-group element data; a first-data-group-readout second direction unit for outputting a second readout direction for the first-data-group element data as per the channel data; a first-data-group readout unit for reading out the element data as per either the first or second readout direction; a first-data-group reproduction unit for converting the readout element data into reproduction data; a first-data-group output
