  • Patent number: 4333274
Abstract: A machine for smoothing and/or polishing lenses comprising a holder which is carried on a slide. The slide is guided for movement in two mutually perpendicular directions, both of which are perpendicular to a main axis of the machine. The slide is moved in a plane perpendicular to the main axis along a curved path which results from the combination of two orbital motions produced by cams. One cam is secured to the main shaft and rotary motion is transmitted to the other cam by an element which rotates about the axis of the main shaft and is driven from the main shaft through a transmission means which has a velocity differing from unity.

  • Patent number: 4232485
Abstract: In a machine for smoothing and polishing part-spherical surfaces on lenses, a tool and a lens are supported in contact with each other for rotation about respective axes and one of the tool and lens is driven. One of the tool and the lens is rocked about an axis which is perpendicular to its axis of rotation while the axis of the other of the tool and lens is maintained at a fixed acute angle to the plane in which the rocking occurs.
